Finger Lakes Trail - Mt Morris
16 reviews
 4.06 of 5

The trail actually goes through much of western new york although not all is accessible to bikers. This chunk though has pretty much everything though. Creek crossings, tight singletrack, roots, some short climbs. Basically a fast trail but pretty technical. Especially for the area. Only the one trail so just keep going til you get tired then turn around.

Trail Directions
Take 390 south from Rochester to Exit 7(Mt. Morris). Take Rt 408 West(or possibly south). There will be an intersection with 408 and 36, where you make a left then an immediate right to stay on 408. Drive right out of town and on the right side will be a sign for Mt Morris Dam park. Turn right on to that and drive til you see the parking lot on the left. Park in the parking lot and the trail is on the left of the entrance to that parking lot.

Summary:
good trail....long enough to spend the day riding and having fun..not very technical but has some fun downhills that once u pick up speed can be a tad dangerous if u lose it(who needs brakes)... beautiful scenery for the first few miles, after that u get a litle deep in the woods. technical gully dropins but u can easily jump off and walk it if neeed be.. bring food and water if u decide to make a day out of it, it can easily be an all day affair. All in all great track . u can be a pro or beginner and u can still enjoy it. happy trails

Summary:
plain and simple this is a fun trail. technical does not equal fun. This trail is fast, pretty tight in sections, and has some fun creek crossings. there are a few logs to get over here and there. but the beauty of this trail is that it is exactly as it was 7 years ago when I used to ride it when I was in school. To comments about being able to ride it on a single speed, I say "big deal". I've ridden 2500 ft climbs on a 32x16 rigid with way more technical decents and fly by bunches of people on FS bikes. yeah for me! The best thing about this trail is the people, or lack thereof. and I don't recall many other 22 mile sections of trail in the area. each person looks to get something different out of riding a mountain bike and a trail should be rated for what it is, not what you think it should be. if you like technical trails, great, but don't bash a trail that is meant to be a fun, fast, gorgeous ride for not being technical enough. This trail is as hard as you make it.

Summary:
Everyone here made this place out to be amazing and i think i went into things with way too high of expectations. The only thing that saved this place was the senery...everything else about the trail was horrible.

This trail is soo well maintained that i wouldn't have even classified it as mountain biking. Its on the verge of being able to cyclo-cross this place because its so smooth. I also thought there would be some pretty cool stuff to ride down since its a huge park and a big gorge near by but its basically flat. I think I could do the whole thing on my singlespeed. That day i rode my freeride bike...boy was that overkill. Nothing is technical about this place in the least bit.

This place is good if you are going to bring your girlfriend or little brother or something biking. It has the best senery, but don't expect any real biking. I am going back here but with a different attitude... its more for looking then hardcore riding.
