The trails are color marked similar to ski trails. Red: advanced, Orange: intermediate, Yellow: beginners. The trails are shared with hikers and horses. However, hardly used by hikers especially in the deep woods but be careful of horse poop. The trails are mostly singletrack. The trails offer traditional East Coast conditions including rocks, roots, branches, and climbs. But, what goes up must come down. Similar to other trails in the area (Graham Hills, Mianus River, etc.), there are offshoot trails off main thoroughfares. Just keep your eyes open. Also, riders looking for a quick spin can find loops (routes) shorter than trails located at Graham Hills.
Summary: I've been riding Blue Mountain for about 3 yrs now and it has definitely become one of my favorite places in the tri-state area. It's well worth the hour drive for me to get there. The singletrack was constructed by mountain bikers for mountain bikers with a thirst for constant challege and with a healthy dose of adrenalin. This place will put a smile on your face guaranteed if you have a pulse and some skills. The Westchester Mountain Bike Assoc (WMBA) website has an excellent map that will get you around to 80% of the choice trails.
Recommended Route: I just recently discovered some amazing stuff in Depew wtih a serious pucker factor and a great way to warm up for the rest of Blue mountain.
Head up the trail next to marker 35 and check out the singletrack on the right or left of that main trail. Best route would be to go to the top and take these trails downhill towards Blue.
My favorite route in Blue is to head up Limbo and right onto Yang then left onto 2 crew live. You're now mid way up the mountain and in the middle of three great choices: 1:head over to MYX monster or 2:My favorite trail or 3:left onto criss-cross to upper SIS and then right onto Stinger (my personal favorite). All three sections of Stinger are a blast and then take switchback to the parking lot.
Other recommended trails in the same area: The 909, but honestly, the next best Hudson valley trail system is at Stewart State forest. If you like cross country at it's finest, go there and you won't be dissapointed.

Summary: Been a couple of years since my last review. Blue has improved considerably since then - about 4 new trails put in, each longer and more challenging than the last. The last few reviews have been spot on and there a tons of good loops going up, down and accross the mountain. Fast, flowy, technical and seemingly endless singltrack. We ride here about 3-4 times a week and ride a different, all singletrack loop each time. Middle and lower Stinger are must rides if you're looking for the perfect decent and Debacle if you're looking to experience the ultimate in technical riding. Check out WMBA.org for group rides, trail conditions and recommended loops. There is a group going out almost every day.
Recommended Route: Blue mtn summit, chris cross to Stinger, lower SIS,
SIS, Chris cross, middle stinger, lower stinger, switchback to the parking lot

Summary: I finally got to ride the Infamous Blue Mountain reservation. I rode Long Island trails for a long time and thought this isn't to hard. Then I went to Vermont and Massachusetts and thought I am out of my league!. Well needless to say Blue Mountain lives up to it's reputation. Compared to other places it really has no Beginner trails. All of the trails in one form or another have small fist sized rock gradens in them. WMBA puts out a map of the area but I found it hard to find some of the single track trails. I got totally lost on Yin and Yang. All of the number markers are not there. I rode there two days in a row and I really recommend either finding someone to show you around or be prepared to feel lost and disoriented. This is not to take anything away from the trails. All of the ones I rode were Technical and amazing!I am going to go back and try to learn the place so I can figure out a loop. I will try to write a follow up once I figure this place out.
Recommended Route: Blue Mountain summit trail to crossover to chewbacca to yang to bailey's to limbo to blue mountain summiy to sitting duck to my favorite trail to parking lot
Other recommended trails in the same area: Taconic 909, Stewart, Sprain ridge, Graham hills

Summary: The trails here are the best of the best. Some of the longest and most flowy singletrack around. If you link it up right you can do 10-15 miles with less than one of those on a doubletrack. There is plenty of climbing but once you are up you are good. I ride a 34lb bike and have no problems. Some trails are super flowy (the SIS trails, 2 Crew, Criss-Cross) and some are super tech (Debachle [not on map yet as of 9-06], MYX Monster, Stinger, My Fav Trail).
Best all around trail riding around. Plenty of rollers and fun stuff if you keep your head up.
Recommended Route: Dickey Brook trail to Yang to Crossover to Limbo (a hell of a climb) to SIS to Stinger to Blue Summit to Sitting Duck to My Favorite Trail to Rocky Glen to lower Stinger to Switchback (alt would be to go from stinger to lower stinger and skip MFT)
Dickey Brook trail to Yang to Crossover to Limbo (a hell of a climb) to SIS to Upper SIS to Criss Cross to 2 Crew Live
Find a way to get The monster in and any ride will be come an epic.
Other recommended trails in the same area: Sprain Ridge, Graham is ok but small, 909

Summary: Ok, let me put is this way...If I had a chance to meet the guy who designed these trails I would give him a big hug and maybe even tell him that i love him. This place is EPIC, get together with a few of your fastest friends and you will have the time of your life. It is very important to explore becaues I bet there is a lot of people that came to this huge park and spent 2 hours riding without finding the good stuff. By good stuff I mean flowing trails with very technical sections of rock gardens, logs, rocks, creek crossings and demanding climbs. Additional we have some fun features like huge boulders where you climb and ride over the ridge with your balls on your mouth...not very forgiving if you dont bring your A game along with you. I might get adicted to this place and it is totally worth my 50 minutes drive from Norwalk, CT.
Recommended Route: Pack up food and fluids and explore, I have no clue what the trails names are and I do see some colors on some trees here and there but I never feel like stopping and figure out what is going on. ITS ALL GOOD.
Other recommended trails in the same area: Case mountain (near Hartford, CT), The valley (Trumbull, CT)
