Allegany State Park

Grass covered double-track with a single-track line worn down the middle. Extremely clean with few rocks and no fallen trees. Not technically challenging but nevertheless a beauty. Long gradual uphill assents followed by gradual descents. The gem is the Patterson Trail. This is a 2.2 mile descent that rules. Fast and furious. Just like down-hill skiing. This place loves mountain bikers. You can even rent them there.

Summary:
Easy beginner terrain on Patterson trail, although climb from parking to patterson trail head my exhaust many beginners. The website ranked it as intermediate. That's the easiest intermediate trail I've ever ridden if that's the case. Recommend shuttling to top. Great 2.5 mile uphill ride if up for a workout (gave aerobic rating a 4 due to climb, without, it would rank at a 1 or 0). Great downhill for beginners or family

Recommended Route:
shuttle to summit area and ride patterson down.

Other recommended trails in the same area:
Holiday Valley area

Recommended Route:
same as above

Summary:
The Gravity Games held their downhill events on the other side of this hill this year (that would be on the road coming into the park- killer climb for you rodies)
For the most part it's all fireroads and not much up and down - just down or just up - with the exception of Snowsnake. The only trail I will ride there anymore. I understand a guy killed himself on this trail a few years ago- going to fast in a competion without scouting the trail - couldn't make the turn. I just use this trail to build endurance - the climb back up is long and steady.
Bova Ski Hill is steap with lots of switchbacks (only singletrack, but through a mowed field)but it's short and the trail to get there is long and uneventful. Better riding can be found at Holiday Valley Ski Resort 10-15 min. north on Route 219 for FREE.

Recommended Route:
down Snowsnake or Bova Ski Hill

Other recommended trails in the same area:
Holiday Valley: It's FREE and you can ride on (down) the ski slope or in the woods on top. If you don't want a killer climb drive up Mutton Hollow (off Route 219 in Great Valley). After passing the 'seasonal limited use' sign take the first right on McCarty Hill Road (the gate should be open). There's some good singletrack off that road and places to pull off. You can get a map of all the trails at many of the bussinesses in Ellicotville. I ride once or twice a week on this trail system.

Summary:
I don't really like it, but I only rode the Raccoon Rally race course... The problem is - the race course is totaly fireroads, and I like single tracks. The only exciting part about the race course is the downhill section on Bova Hill where it's steep with switchbacks. Other than that, I would stay in Holiday Valley.

Recommended Route:
Follow Rt. 219 or I-81 then the signs directing you to the state park. Red House Area is where you want to park.
