The Knap Trail

Average Rating:    (2.33 of 5)

No. of Reviews: 3

The Knap Trail ain't no picnic. It's probably the steepest trail in the county-700+ feet in 1/2 mile. It's totally ridable though and the best quick sick descent in town. The trail to the resevoir is sweet singletrack and the road past the resevoir is as fast as you dare go.

Summary:
I've ridden this trail a couple times in the last week and there is a section that is not ridable because of erosion. About a 100 yd section of the Knapp (the steepest part) needs about a weekend's worth of work. Water bars and shoring up the sides of the trail will help it a lot. This trail rules!!!! Also I followed a trail with fresh cuts going up LA canyon towards the headwaters and pipeline, I only had time to walk about 1/4 mile but it looks promising to join the upper la canyon trail with pipeline. A worthy project.

Recommended Route:
same as above.

Summary:
This trail is supposedly closed to bikes, because of the erosion they cause, but it's so poorly designed that I can't see how bikes could do any more harm. Plus, there's basically never anyone on it. So yeah, it's a good steep descent. The only one gnarlier in the county is the Quemazon rim, and even it isn't as steep. If someone got really motivated, they could extend the LA canyon trail all the way to Camp May, which would truly kick ass and allow a lot of neat loops to be closed without using boring old pipeline road. Anyone want to help me do it?

Recommended Route:
Same as described.
