Summary:
Just went up after a thunderstorm, the trail was relatively dry, chased up a few mule deer. Awesome trail. Only trail I have ridden so far, but it is forgiving to this beginner. There are grueling parts as well(uphills). The road to the top is a lungbuster, but worth it when you see the view... took me ten minutes to get up, two get back down. It is just a lot of fun. Recommend to anyone. Beginners and those of you who are experts can ride this no problem... it's all about fun.

Summary:
The best thing about A mountain is that it is so close to my house. I ride my bike from my house straight to the mountain. It's the only real trail I've biked on but I think its fun and its not too difficult, I can ride 98% of the trail on my solid frame, but there are some side trails for the more adventurous. If you want a gorgeous view of the valley and dont mind a grueling climb and a steep descent you can take a steep trail that goes straight to the top of A-mountain. For those who enjoy a bit of risk on their trails, A-mountain is great. There's nothing like falling into a cactus to encourage your skills, and there are plenty of cacti to fall into. There are also plenty of snakes in the area, I've seen a bull snake and my partner nearly ran over a diamondback. Anyways, its a good ride and rarely fails to get my adrenaline going when im dodging cacti spines on a sometimes rocky singletrack. I give it 3 tires since I've never been on any other trails.

Summary:
Starting from the NMSU campus around the mountain is a blast while starting from the parking area on
the northern side it is a downhillish ride that goes in about half the time. This trail, taken from either direction, is a crash course in desert terrain. Keep an eye out for the joggers and horses along the jeep trails surrounding the mountain. All things considered it is a nice training area. Snakes are around so keep an eye out, they are abundant. It's not the most challenging ride, but a good way to blow off pent up riding energy.

Recommended Route:
Start either from the NMSU campus (geothermal drive) and go up to the singletrack or from the parking area in the north.

Other recommended trails in the same area:
The dona ana's are fun, as is the Sierra Vista trail for the long haul type rides. Redd Road in El Paso is cool, but there have been political issues with this area (ie rangers can be dicks).
