Cross Country Rider Summary: I like this trail network. Nice rolling single track with some sustained climbs. There is a 10 mile loop from the main trail head off Hwy 165 that will get you about 900 ft of climbing mixed with fast p/j traverses, foot-hill type climbs and fun desents. While there are beginer-friendly trails, I'd not characterize the area as beginer. Its just fun and not crowded. Recommended Route: From the main trail head on south side of hwy 165 across from Homestead Village, take the single track south. You will quickly encounter a wire fence that you should cross and continue up a gradual climb about 3/4 mile from TH. Once on the Mesa, look for a trail breaking west and take it. This is "boobytrap" made famous by Michael Delongchump, the goon that strung wires and fish hooks across it some years back. Follow Boobytrap 1 mile to "Gully" and go left, climbing to the high power lines. Take the highline trail south to FR then up hill (left) to a small TH on right (about 1/4 mile from high line intersection. This trail will go toward the "wilderness" boundary, but b4 that look for a single track on left that traverses the foot hills. On this trail you will skirt the Wilderness Boundary along man-cut terraces installed after a devastaing flood wiped out Bernalillo in the 1950s. Follow the trail past Piedra Liza TH (interesting climbs near here) and the next. Choices about after that for shorter or longer completions of the loop back to starting point.

Cross Country Rider Summary: This trail is HORRIBLE!!!!!!!!DO NOT WASTE YOUR TIME... unless you want to get used to clipless pedals(which is why I gave it a 2 instead of a lowly 1). The trails are nothing but a mindless circle that I wouldnt even take my little sister on. Recommended Route: Drive to tramway and go to ellena gallegos trail head or the sandia foothills.

Cross Country Rider Summary: Typical chihuahuan desert single track with loosely spaced pinion-juniper trees. the land slopes gradually toward the Placitas Foothills and then leads into an old strip mine area. You can ride the several unmarked trails out here and also climb on some of the strip mine grades. Recommended Route: Make it up as you go along, because this is the type of area, you explore and will at times retrace your route whgile chasing down adjoining loops. Good begginner area and excellent for trail running.
FYI: Some Psycho Sierra-clubber set booby traps and injured a rider in early 2004. Good news is that he was caught and sentenced for his violent behavior. He lives in Placitas, so look out for this floppy-hat wearing nutball.....
