The Dome Road
1 reviews
 4 of 5

This is biking the Dome Road FR 289 to the intersection of 289 with FR 36. (This is about 1/2 mile south of Bandelier NM). The route is 14.5 miles of vigourous climbing and is an excellent Winter ride. Climbing has to be close to 2k, and since it is dirt road you crank pretty fast, so this is an serious workout and is strenuous (believe it or not)

Summary:
Looking for a long ride up in the mountains in the winter when the trails are too muddy? Ride the Dome Road, which starts out ot low, dry desert and climbs to the top of Cochiti Mesa. Brind your camera because there are several scenic overlooks into Cochiti Canyon, and even a few of the Dome Wilderness.

Ride will test even the best of bikers because fot he continuous climb and since it is dirt, you try to pedal this mofo pretty hard.

Not bad for the burque types who want a 30-miler in January and is tired of stringing the foothills with four hills or tijeras arroyo to get a long ride.

Recommended Route:
Bottom to top then back to bottom........or top to bottom then back to top for the Los alamos folks.

Other recommended trails in the same area:
Can use this to climb up to Crosstown, MoTown, Bland Canyon, Alamos Trails, etc.
