Coyote Trail
2 reviews
4.5 of 5
Coyote climbs to the 4-way interscetion to where it seems everything in Cedro leads to. The trail is single track and in parts is the clay dust, some limestone, loose rocks known as "cedro apples", rock gardens, rutted dried mud runs. Typical of the cedro area.
As an option you can ride the dump road - very rocky and challenging to the 4-way, then take the fast Coyote back to your car. this is preferred way for after woork riders or those looking for a short ride.
Park at Cedro Peak Parking Lot - located on east side of south 14, about 3/4 of a mile past the new ranger station.
From p-lot, get on gravel road, and ride for about a mile. Once you finish the climb, there will be an entrance on the right - continue on for 1/10 of a mile, and then take the singletrack emergenging from the bend on the road. This is Coyote.

Summary: This is a great trail and should be ridden East to West back to the trailhead. However, I would not rate it a 5
Other recommended trails in the same area: If you want to ride a 5 banger, try Otero Canyon down from the firetower

Summary: This is agreat trail, and almost every Cedro ride somehow ends with this tacked on to finish.
The trail lately has had some encroachment from the local idiot kids on the quadrunners at the upper end. But it is just too rocky and challenging that I can't imagine they will be back on the trail. some of the tight tree turns, near the pink/red rocks definately kept those idiots out.
Recommended Route: Again, i usually finish any Cedro ride with this trail. Or do an out and back - it will be a good challenge after work.
Other recommended trails in the same area: Mighty Mule, Rocky Top, 5-hills of Death, 2 Cabins,
