Follow this trail down along the Rio en Medio - the trail is fast, and has some great rock drops and at one point you are stradling an old walkway along the aquqduct. This trail can be a screamer.
You will end up back at FR 412 - this is actually part of the old Borrego Trail.
In the old days, you could just hop on the Borrego trail and follow this south until you hit the Winsor. This would involve a little climbing - right trough the Peublo land (yep, they have a small plot up here for the cows...now you know where the cows appear from on the Winsor!). This goes right through Vigil Meadows - lately the gate has been left open by the tribe, so you might be able to make the quick push back to Winsor.
If not, then at Vigil Meadows, just take a right and start climbing on FR. 102, back to where you crossed it earlier when you on the Winsor.
This is a fun ride, and if things work out for you, it will be almost all singletrack back to Winsor. God Luck!
This is best used as an optional return when you climb the winsor to the ski area. Don't be a poser and shuttle up here!
Anyway, just after you pass the Nordic Ski area on your way to the SF Ski Area, take a right after you cross the creek (it is that downhill that temps you befreo the last 3 mintues of riding to the smelly bathroom at the ski area.
Trail is shown on the Drake Mountain Map - available from most bike shops. Buy it!
Trail Length
2 miles - just for 163. Another 2 or 3 back to winsor for a loop
Summary: The start of the trail is a few hundred descent that is almost unrideable. Just nothing but bolders and tight lines ina straight line down along the river. It then levels out and you get absolutlely awesome scenery with open meadows, scenic vistas, all when you follow the Rio en Medio. This trail is very technical though and it is recommended for strong riders on suspension frames.
There are alternative paths when you cross the acquecia (aquaduct) and you can follow these for a ways, much the same as has been done for over a hundred years on horseback. The aquaducts are really neat to look at, and this ride is certainly scenic.
When you get to the bottom, you can look for the old Borrego trail, which is very gnarly, but rideable.
