Cross Country Rider Summary: Hard packed trail with some nice curving rollers, some sandy arroyos and few minimally rocky ascents/descents. Great if you want to ride fast. Slow riding allows you to see all the great wildlife! Beautiful at sunrise or sunset. Recommended Route: Start at Rabbit Road, head south to Lamy and back. Two to three hour ride at moderate pace. Take Camelback and food. Other recommended trails in the same area: Dale Ball system.

Weekend Warrior Summary: Began at the 14 mm on Old Agua Fria Rd,as recommended on the website. The trail rapidly disappeared due to a new housing development having been built over the RR grade. However, we did find a dirt track that paralleled the "official" trail, and we took that south to mm 7. The trail began with steep hills and it appeared quite unmaintained. I hated it, my partner loved it. After a couple miles, the trail improved and I could negotiate the hills with no problems. Scenery is great, even witnessed a gopher snake raiding one of the many bird boxes mounted on the fenceposts along the trail. I ended up loving the trail, too. It was just annoying to have to try to actually locate it!!

Cross Country Rider Summary: The entrance sign said no motor vehicles allowed, however the trail appeared to be very well “groomed” by quads. The trail runs along the train tracks which universally never have more than a 3% grade, so don’t expect any climbing.
Very little single track and more like a two lane highway. This trail would be a real hoot with a cyclo-cross bike or a ridged single speed. It’s fast and flat with great scenery and rolling hills.

, from Santa Fe, NM Summary: I ride the northern 2/3 of this trail 2-4 times per week. It's an easy trail with 2-4 short steep climbs out of arroyos. This trail is great practice for inexperienced riders. It's fun for experienced riders to ride this trail fast but slow down for the hikers you are sure to pass along the way. There's a 2 mile section of single track on the west side of the tracks 2 miles north of Eldorado that's especially fun as you ride South. My favorite part is the wide open (but not for long) ranch land between Eldorado & Arroyo Hondo. This is a great place to be during sunset. Recommended Route: Park at the Public Lands Information Center on Rodeo Rd. Ride South along the tracks up to 14 miles. Turn around whenever you want but the best view is at the end. You might enjoy riding the additional 1.5 mile down to Lamy to see the old train depot, schoolhouse, and church. Climbing back up Lamy hill is a butt-breaker though. Other recommended trails in the same area: Dale Ball trail system, Apache Canyon Loop, Guaje Ridge Trail in Los Alamos

, from Santa Fe Summary: Start from the pub and go away from second street on the little trail that is parallel to the tracks. You will have to cross a couple of semi-busy streets, but the visability is good. Hook up with the paved trail and go left until it ends at a parking area. Cross the street by way of the tracks and keep going. After this it should be easy to see your route. This is an out and back trail that ends at a four lane highway near the small town of Lamy. It's worth riding the highway (go right) into the town and to the train depot to fill your water bottles and just chill under the cotton woods. Total ride time can be anywhere from 2.5 to 4 hours. The things I like best about this trial is the fact that you can ride it almost all year and that even if your an advanced rider it is still a great time. The scenery is fantanstic and in June the "cholla" cactus are in full bloom with spectacular pink flowers. Recommended Route: Park your car on the dirt section near the tracks at Second Street Brewery, but make sure to buy a pint or take home a growller after the ride (good brew). Other recommended trails in the same area: Dale Ball, Winsor, and Dorthy Stewart to Dale Ball
