Aspen Vista Road

Steady uphill riding on a dirt road with incredible views of the aspen trees, and of the whole region once you get to the 4 mile mark and of course at the peak! Elevation at start is aprx. 10,000 feet above sea level and ascends to 12,045 seet. Option to descend through ski area on sketchy terrain then down Hyde Park Road a few miles to parking area. I've rated the trail as 'intermediate' because its a road, but the fitness level required is moderate at the least! The descent is fast and at peak times there are a lot of users out there, especially when the leaves are chnging in the fall, so be careful and courteous.
Up Hyde Park Road towards the ski area. Aprx. 12 miles up from the intersection of Hyde Park Road and Bishops Lodge Road. Large well marked parking area at 'trailhead' as well as vault toilets and a few picnic benches.
Summary: Great non-technical climb to the top, but don't just take the boring way back down on the same dirt road like all the rest of the weenies. Check out the ski area map next to the ski patrol shack under the chair lift. Find "Wizard" and use the cat walk ( a trail just left of the map) to hook up on the most vertical decent of your life, Wizard. After a few minutes you feel vertico set in as your equallibrium gets a smashing dose of adrenaline. If you go over the bars it's a tuck and roll situation onto some tall wild grass. Follow the ski run until you hook up with more cat walks. You can't get lost, but this is not a good route for timid riders or those who need trail markers to get by.
Recommended Route: park at Aspen Vista Trail Head and start your climb up. At the top go right of the ski patrol shack to "Wizard" via the cat walk. Follow cat walks to ski area parking lot and then take the paved road back to Aspen Vista trail head.
Other recommended trails in the same area: Winsor from Nordic Ski Area

Summary: Good continuous climb that will take you to above 12k in elevation. Ride down though is fairly quick and linear, and this ride should be done for the views and the challenging climb. The downhill is just average at best...but obviously well appreciated after the climb.
Recommended Route: Go up, then go down
Other recommended trails in the same area: Start at Bishops lodge, take Windsor up to Aspen Vista...that is the ultimate SFNF challenge!
