singletrack - gravel, rock (boulders), sand... lower half is "crusiser" trail but gets much more technical on the north end.

Summary:
this was an awesome trail. the northern section was pretty technical, but they butchered it. all of the obstacles were removed. the trail is a joke now. luckily the the trail approching the tram is intact, but for how long? very sad thing, because little is left as far as technical trails in the foothills.

Recommended Route:
embudo trailhead a the top of montegomery to the base of the tram.

Summary:
You can do a good loop using the Tramway bike trail
(paved, which I, good buddies got the NM State Road only Dept to put in) Watch the rollerbladers and the
occasional dog. Park at the NE corner of Tramway and
Montgomery at the Smiths lot. Pick up your swag here.
Go north all the way to end of the Trail where you will meet up with the County Line BBQ. If open and you wish to fortify for the blitz up the hill the place has a bar with Fat Tire Ale on Tap. Go behind this place and you will see an old powerline road going east up the hill to the tram station. Some of you will end up walking up the steep section esp. if beer sodden. You will intersect with a dirt road just above the tram station. Go SE up this moderately steep road to
the water tanks. Trail goes south from here across the arroyo. Follow the obvious great route all the way south to the Embudito trailhead. Then get back on the balcktop for the fun ride (Follow the main road out to the left at the bottom of the hill to the first major
Montgomery intersection and then blast back to Smiths.

Summary:
I have just arrived here in Albuquerque from the Northeast and love riding this trail. It is not the steep rocky buisness that is in the east. This trail has fast sweeping turns, great views, and has a few ups and downs. It took some getting used to the sandy trail and loose conditions. this is a great trail to hit up after work. There are many walkers/runners on this trail as well, so be careful around turns. Also, it has taken some getting used to dodging the cactus that butts right against the trail. I feel for the people that have biffed into them.

Summary:
This is the best "new-comer" trail for this area and also for the "quick ride after work". Start from the Embudito trailhead and take the trail all the way to the watertowers at the base of the Tram. This has become a very heavily used trail. Lots of hikers, bikers, runners, and dog walkers. Which means some who don't know the definition of "sharing the trail". Be careful.
This has always been a great ride but it is too busy now at anytime of the day either weekdays or weekends. With so many people, it would be better (and safer) if it was made into one direction loops. Say, if all bikers kept East on the trail and returned back on the West side. I know that there have been crashes between bikes going through the cool North face sigletracks of the hills. More lately, I've noticed that someone has been "grooming" the trail by taking rocks out of the way. Too bad. Isn't that what mountain biking is all about? Learn to do it, it'll make you a stronger rider. With all this, I still give this trail a high rating with the hopes that others will give the "one way" a try.

Recommended Route:
Same

Other recommended trails in the same area:
Cedro, Otero, and Faulty to the top.

Reviewed by: Dr. Rearrango , from Albuquerque, NM

Summary:
This trail is the staple of most MTB'ers in Albuquerque from beginners to experts. It is mostly sandy gravel with some rocky, sections strewn in between. The climbs are short and grunty with nothing over 5-10 minutes in length or super technical. The terrain is up and down through the arroyos with some longer sections here and there. Weekends are crowded with runners, hikers, bikers, horses and dogs. Caution and vigilence while riding are prerequisites for 365 trail area. The recent trail maintenance (water bars) on 366 has left the trail looser and in worse shape than I have ever seen it. Skip this trail if possible. Great for cooler season riding and unbearable above 85 degrees. I'll give it three stars for being an average trail with great views of Albuquerque and Mt. Taylor to the west at sunset.

Recommended Route:
Any of the routes from Copper on the south to the Tram on the north.

Other recommended trails in the same area:
East Mountains-Otero, Cedro, Faulty
