Mills Reservation

Average Rating:    (3.63 of 5)

There are a couple dozen trails in Mills. Some trails are paved while others take you on single track though forest and wooded areas. There is alot of good single track with many logs, small streams, and good rocky portions. Just be careful, it's illegal to ride here and sometimes police wait at entrances, but this almost never occurs.

Summary:
The main trails, (which ARE legal), are loose gravel paved. The secondary trails ( illegal ), are rocky and technical, lots of logs, roots. Al-around it's a fun little place to ride, ideal if you live nearby and have only an hour or two each day to ride. You'll get a good workout and you will not be bored.

I ride there all the time and no one has ever bothered me about being there illegally, but I also stay on the well worn trails, and dismount whenever a dog walker approaches, as a courtesy.

If you choose to ride here please keep the trails from getting any wider, and please do not try to cut your own trails, there are plenty of unmarked game trails so it can be tempting, just don't.

Recommended Route:
Follow the blue trail, then the yellow, to the top of "freaks peak", then down the other side. You can loop around using the gravel trails.

Trail map is posted on the main trail just up from the parking lot.

Summary:
Rode this trail last week with my buddies.
There is no-bike sign at the entrance of the trail. The main trail is mainly used by dog walkers. Most of them did not use the leash, so we weren't the only ones breaking the rule.
We caught few unpleasant stares from them but the majority were friendly.

You can avoid them by taking more technical trails but they can be quite rocky. We rode up to the WWII anti-aircraft gun site and enjoyed our snack with incredible view of the city.

mills has many short and technical trails, and some nice long downhills too. although some of the dog walkers may give you dirty looks, mills is pretty mountain biker friendly. this place has some great trails with very rocky terrain.

Recommended Route:
the blue trail is my favorite trail.

Summary:
as stated above, it is illegal, but I have been riding these trails for 3 years and have never had any problems. I prefer to go in by ridge road(maybe in the 100's), right before the reservoir begins, there is a small opening with a single track that takes you into the trails behind the reservoir. its on the left, heading towards cedar grove. once you pass the reservoir, you will end up in the main parking lot where all the dog walkers park. at this point, have fun and explore. you can easily ride the entire park in a half-hour, or you can take a different loop and stay in there for 2+ hours. very very technical sections, some kick a$$ downhills, awesome single tracks and a couple of main gravel road. You can simply ride around the entire park without getting bored without the fear of getting lost! Highly recommended!!

Recommended Route:
So many trails to choose from!
