Public land set aside for hunters. Lots of well maintained, but nasty, rocky fire roads. Forest fire service located nearby uses this as their training ground. The beautiful Silver Lake area has the most trails and intersections. About 3 completeable loops. There is a nice view from one overlook 2 miles north of 23, 1/2 mile south of Mountain road. No maps exist. Trails that go south from route 23 connect up with trails in Mahlon Dickerson and Newark watershed areas. Park a car at the bottom of Mountain road and enjoy a big vertical ride out at the end. Middle of park is a remote area. Don't ride alone, and watch for bears, I almost slammed into one at high speed there recently. Don't ride during hunting season, except on Sundays.

Reviewed by: Skatebroad , from Montville NJ Summary: I've been back there about 4 times on bike this season looking for a supposed old mining town. There are many motorized bikes but they've been pretty friendly to me so far!! Recommended Route: Off Rt 23, on Rt 515 (also called Stockholm/Vernon road) park by mile marker 6. There is a big opening where people park there cars. From there go down the hill and there are trails to the left and right. The ones to the right are sick and you pass by a few bodies of water. Reviewed by: JORBA , from New Jersey Summary: Wildlife Management Area (WMA's) are governed by the NJ Division of Fish Game and Wildlife. Their funding comes from hunting and fishing licenses. As a result, their main objective is to provide and protect these activities. Mountain biking is tolerated in WMA's as long as it does not interfere with hunting. Therefore, during hunting season, only use these areas on Sunday. The only trails closed to bikes is the Highlands Trail (teal blaze) and the AT (White Blaze). Would you like to Comment?
