East Creek Trail

Average Rating:    (3.5 of 5)

No. of Reviews: 4

East Creek Trail is all Single Track. The one side of East Creek Trail is well maintained, however, the east side of the trail has about oh say.......a hundred big oak trees laying across it. Making a longer hike a bike than any MTBer should want. This park has Many ok...lets say Thousands of un-used acres of property. It's a rumor that Bellplain State Park is looking for Volunteers to help build a new trail system inside the park and help maintain the existing east creek trail. Hey, South Jersey MTBers wake up, this could give you another oppurtunity to build a great trail system for MTBing in South Jersey! Anyway, East Creek Trail is great it's fast has many log overs and great winding trails.....hey isn't that what south jersey mtbing is about?

Summary:
Trail was in good shape yesterday. A bit of water on the trail in spots, but still a blast. Only one or two logs across, and there is a lot of newer bridges over the really swampy areas. Someone has done a real nice job maintaining this trail. Thanks.

Nice single track, but not much elevation change one real technical sections. A nice twisty ride nonetheless.

Recommended Route:
Start at the park office and use the north trail to the east lake trail, and you can do almost a ten mile loop.

Summary:
As a representative for Atlantic County Trail Volunteers, I talked to Bellplains Naturalist Kathleen about getting volunteers out on East Creek Trail to do some needed mainteance. Kathleen said no mainteance has been done on ECT for atleast 5 years now (come to find out ECT one of the top 10 hiking trail in NJ). I explained to her, Our group Atlatnic County Trail Volunteers A.C.T.V. is will to help out with the project. I explained to her about the single track loop we're building at Estell Manor Park. She is sending (ACTV)us info on become a group affiliated with the park. I asked her about making additional trail (single track) within the park for Hiking and MTBiking. She said the oppurtunity to build new trails exists!!!!!! But first thing is first and East Creek Trail is Bellplains priority for now. Anyone who is intrested in getting involved and wants to help ACTV with Estell Manor or Bellplain State Park volunteering on the trail. We can be contacted by email at AtlanticCountyTrailVolunteers@MSN.com or Bonsaimtb@hotmail.com

I agree with the other postings. Good moguls too.

Recommended Route:
From Rt.9 in Marmora heading South, make a right at the light by Wendy's for Tuckahoe Road. Stay on through next two lights. Make a left onto Rt.49 at a blinking yellow light in Tuckahoe. Stay on 49 for about three miles, bear left at the fork for Rt.548. Follow 548 until the road goes from smooth asphalt to rough older stuff. A dirt road intersects the highway shortly after it gets rough. You will see a stopsign for the dirtroad on the right (North) side. This is a good place to park on the dirtroad if you want your car to be fairly clean when you return to it. A quarry is located South of the trails, you will probably encounter some traffic from it on the dirt road. Head South for about 1.5 miles, after another dirtroad intersects. The main trail is on the left side, just about any entrance will eventually lead you to good trails at this point. Avoid the area on Sundays, motorcross guys are all over the trails travelling between pits. If you see the main quarry, turn around. They are pretty direct about how much they don't like anyone around it.

Summary:
This place needs some trail maintance. The East Creek Trail is a good ride, but the east section of trail has one too many log overs that are unridable! Could be one of the better rides in the area........if some work was to be done on the trail.
