AWSOME singel double track..good decents climbs fST AND AT TIMES SCAREY. Many trails easy to get lost
take RT: 206 north to cranbery lake 10 minutes from rt:80. Park at the lot next to lake across from mini market. you have two options follow tril to fire road or go up 206 to 1st road on left follow into woods 1 mile enter marked trail.....big gate..
Summary: The motherload of all trail systems. This place is the measuring stick which all others will be compared to.Easily over 25 miles plus worth of riding if you choose.Only problem is very easy to get lost, but isn't that what mountain biking is all about--adventure.Well maintained and never too muddy. You really have to explore/get lost a few times to really enjoy all this place has to offer.Don't get me wrong, a lot of it is marked.Stay with that your first few times, then venture out into the unknown.
Recommended Route: Too many to list all.To park- take 80 West to exit 25 stanhope/newton, bear right towards waterloo village, bear right at light, about 3/4 mile you come to a T in road, just cross main road to parking.Take railroad bed to cranberry lake follow around lake riding alongside 206 north for a bit follow gravel trail.Just before you get to house on right(waving willie) there is a GREEN(very small cut-through) trail on your left.Stay on green for a good trek then hit the white trail for a while.Once you cross a stream white goes right.Stay left instead (here's where it' s easy to get lost)Try to stay on main trail although unmarked bearing left when possible, bear rt at t ,left at dean's tombstone, as you are going up hill bear left this will lead you to red stay left and or straight on red and this will lead you back to the railroad bed bear right back to vehicle
Other recommended trails in the same area: Chimney Rock(at least 4 days no rain prior to going), Ringwood,Mahlon Dickerson, Jungle Habitat, Kittatinny

Summary: I have been riding this area off and on for over 12 years and i have to say the riding here has improved ten fold. Who ever built the switchback on top western center did such a profesional job, my helmet off to guys!!! unfortunately, all the great riding is really on the unmarked trails, so if you do go try to hook up with someone who knows the trails you won't be dissappointed. Easily the best in N.J. it's got long climbs, lots of techincal sections with drops, and of course long fast downhills with nice sweeping turns...NICE!!!
Recommended Route: I park on Rt.517 side jump on orange trail to white trail to unmarked trails.... Again try to ride with someone who knows the trails....

Summary: This is a very fun, long trail with the option of hitting up some more technical up/downhill. Plenty of places to explore. This trail pretty much runs parallel to Rt. 206/ Rt. 94 The flat singletrack is great! You can feel the very slight inclines in this trail due to the fact that it is an old railroad bed.
Recommended Route: Park at waterloo and just keep going! Grab a map if you plan on staying in the Waterloo/Byram area. We went through an unmarked loop that came out to someones house!
Other recommended trails in the same area: Devils Footprint through Hopatcong/Jefferson
Summary: Washed out fire roads with plenty of rubble, rocks, rocks and more rocks, sticks, branches and rickety log crossings. Very choppy and slow riding for the most part. Some flowing smoother trails on the western side some of them are laced in thick mud. It's a relatively large park with a diverse trail selection and some nice special sections (large rock faces) and a couple of great scenic views. Plenty of long climbs. Not alot of natural speed in the place, it's hard to tempo ride. A great place if you're a weak spinner but have good finess and can ride choppy stuff. The place will beat you up, over and over and over. What makes this place to be considered the best place in NJ, I have no idear. I think it's the best place in the world, but that may be a macho thing. It fits right in with the great parks we have in north jersey.
Summary: Rode northern section of Allamuchy for first time today, covering the red (Ranger)and Blue (Iron Mine) trails, as well as portions of the torquoise Highlands (not for MTB, I found), white, and yellow trails. DOWNLOAD THE MAP FROM THE LINK GIVEN ON AN EARLIER REVIEW HERE BY WEEKEND WARRIOR. I did this, referred to it on the trails, and found it to be quite accurate. I strongly suspect it is much better than the sketchy map provided by the Park. I didn't get lost (although there were un-marked side trails where I might have been able to accomplish that.) This is a pretty wild-and-wooly area. The hills will challenge the best riders--and you better like rocks. Extreme obstacles are few and far between; but the riding IS technical and it is strenous. You have to be willing to push up hills and carry some streams (when high). This is not a place for a "girlfriend" ride...unless she's savvy and fit. All that aside, it's a great place to explore; but be prepared with tube, patches, etc. You're "out there" in the woods. I saw one person all day, after I left the Sussex Branch rail trail--and he was a bowhunter.
Recommended Route: Download the map and go explore!
Other recommended trails in the same area: The south side of the park IS more mellow; but it's also fine riding.
