Ridden Trail: Once a week

Weekend Warrior Summary:
I ride this park all the time since I live in the area, so here is the unvarnished truth. It's definitaly not for the folks that like ski resort downhills and ride downhill bikes. Who are we kidding? It's for cross country riding. For years the park had a flow issue which has changed with time and new trails. This is also the most scenic park in the area as it gets the least amount of use and the trails skirt lakes, ponds, swamps and almost pristine forest in many areas. You cannot ride this area in a day. Recommended Route: This is a good route for a day. Start at the boat launch and take the jeep road, at the left, towards the dam and make a left. Cross the dam and continue straight onto Wingdam and make a quick right up a hill and follow it around the shore line and back out to Wingdam. After you pass the next dam (the real wingdam) look for the Sitting Bear on the right. (Technical and swoopy with rock gardens and great views) At the end, bear right onto Laurel Pond double track to the end and right onto Cherry Ridge pass the gate and 200 yard left on the White LO Trail. (Sorry more technical single track) At the end bear left down a steep hill to the lake and on the near side of the lake, right onto the unmarked Pickle Trail (Darn. More of that techy sgl track) to the end. I like to go left here onto Turkey Ridge and stay straight until a climb just past a brook. This is The Pines Trail. Bear left at the top of the climb and continue to the end. Cross the gas line to the unmarked Rattlesnake and have fun riding through the Cambodia and Heart Attack sections. Heart Attack is a big easy drop taken straight or take the left safer ventricle. Follow to the end and you're back at the end of Pickle. Other recommended trails in the same area: Ringwood and the new Jungle Habitat area in West Milford, a great place.

Cross Country Rider Summary: I rode a section of Wawayanda I hadn't been in for a while. I think this is part of the turkey ridge area. Normally we ride the shoreline on lookout lake as part of our loop. This time we changed it up a little and instead of riding old coal and making a right into lookout lake we stayed on the carriage road for about a mile. This takes you to the trail head on the right.Take the right in for a short way and make a left at the fork. This will bring you to a small rock outcropping. There are orange markers going off to the left which are very easy to spot.I don't know who worked on this single track but I have to say nice job. This is by far the best section of single track I've ridden in the park. There are stone ramps and bridges in here that are fantastic. There are alot of tight technical climbs and turns. This is definately not for the novice rider and even expert riders will have to work hard to clean this trail.A buddy of mine did it the day before and talked it up. He was right. As you get to the end there is a small narrow bridge. Cross that and come ou to a clearing which I guess is the gas line. Make a right go down to the carraige road and go left. This will bring you out to the circle on cherry ridge Recommended Route: Hoefferlin to banker(stay right at the intersections).Banker is kind of boaring but you can move pretty quick through here. Out to cherry ridge make a right follow to old coal make a left up to the Y. Make a right into lookout lake. Left at the end of the lake . Ride the shoreline(this is a nice little technical). At the end make a right on the carraige road and then a quick left into the rattlesnake trail.Follow this loop back to the carraige road . Go back to the shoreline trail going the opposite way. It's like a different trail going backwards, plus you can avoid the carraige roads. Take this to the dam and make a left up the hill to the lookout trail(first right).Follow out to the carraige road through the gate make a left on laurel pond. follow laurel pond till it flattens out and look for the single track on the left. This is a pretty ride along Wawayanda lake. Follow this all the way out to the end . Follow the carraige roads out to the main road . Back towards the ranger station and make a right into black eagle. Follow black eagle back to Hoefferlin. Make a left . Nice little downhill and back to the car.

Weekend Warrior Summary: Waywayanda is a great place to ride. Just rode here on 9/6/04 for my first time and was very impressed. A good spot to hit for any intermediate/experienced rider.

Weekend Warrior Summary: This trail is good to ride maybe once a summer. I would not consider this mountsain biking in the least. I am pretty used to cannonbal trail at the top of skyline drive and find it much more of a challenge and therefore keeping me interested. Find my mind wandering too much on the fire roads to actually pay attention to the 10 minutes of technical stuff. I did the route that you guys all said, so, maybe i am missing something there. Recommended Route: Top of Skyline Other recommended trails in the same area: Oaklan NJ, Cannonball trail. Ringwood state park.

Cross Country Rider Summary: I've recently moved to the area from San Diego, where I did quite a bit of riding. And while this place is not the "wide open" big mountain experience I've come to know & love in CA, it definitely has its charm.
I was able to hook up with a couple of blokes this weekend who showed me a sweet 18 mile circuit of rocky, rooty, twisty, up & down singletrack. Throw in a couple of creek crossings, puddle jumps, and scared bears...and this place gets fun.
Dont listen to the haters, the place is fun. Just don't get suckered into paying $10 for parking.
Ride on. Recommended Route: Follow someone who knows the place. The map they provide there is useless.
