Ridden Trail: Once a week

Weekend Warrior Summary: Quick update. The Morris County Park Commission did some work on Patriot's Path between the School and Cold Hill Road in Mendham. What once was a nice piece of singletrack is now a very wide trail with gravel. Looks like they did a lot of work to improve the drainage and runoff but in doing so ruined one of the best sections of the trail.
Lots of changes in the trails at Lewis Morris Park with many older trails closed and new trails cut in their place.

Weekend Warrior Summary: Patriots Path is a good trail for a beginner to intermediate rider. Great scenery. I ride it 2-3 times a week and never get bored. Some roots, hills, foot bridges, single track, gravel, water crossings, short power hills and one long climb. Start at trailhead on Sussex Avenue a few miles outside of Morristown. Head south on gravel trail, first 10 minutes are flat. Once crossing Whitehead Rd the fun will begin with a nice long hill. Recommended Route: Whitehead Rd to parking lot across from Sunrise Lake has a big climb, lots of roots and some gravel downhill. After bridge go right (don't cross Rt. 24) and head to Mendham. Section from Tingley Rd to Police Station has one good power hill with 2 foot bridges and some muck. Section from School to Cold Hill Rd is good singletrack uphill ride with some small logs, drain pipes and large roots, rocks and one foot bridge. Section from Cold Hill to Mountain Avenue is fast and wide--nothing technical. Section from Mountain Ave to Ironia Rd (past sewer plant) is rocky and has two water crossings. First crossing is shallow but the second one is much deeper but both are cement bottoms so you will get wet but not dirty. Bikes aren't allowed on trail beyond Ironia Rd. Sections from Whitehead Rd-Washington Valley Rd-Sussex Ave are gravel (old railroad bed). After Sussex trail is paved until Lake Rd and then drops into Speedwell Lake. Trail briefly crosses Rt 202 but is closed shortly thereafter by RR bridge. Other recommended trails in the same area: Ringwood

, from Flemington Summary: Fantastic hills. A great place to spin and get your heart up. Riding mid-week is great, very few people around, other than two or three group rides. If you live in the area, make it a mid-week stop. Keep the trails here in good shape, dont drag your wheels and tear it up, a few spots have been blocked off for regrowth, (one of these my favorite of uphills). Recommended Route: the pond, pass the picnic area and spin uphill to do the loop.

, from Bedminster Summary: This trail might not be as exciting as some other trails in the area, but it is still a challenging fun ride. Bring your stamina because these hills are long -not too steep though. My friend, who likes to complain a lot, was bitching the whole time. I almost had to leave him for dead in th emiddle of the trail. The equally long downhills make it worth the climb. There are a few fun jumps, logs and rocks. Bring a map of the trail! My friend and I went around in circles until we figured it out. I thought we were in the Blair Witch Project. Recommended Route: For challenging hills and good drops, ride Patriot's Path on the Sunrise Lake side of Rte 24. Other recommended trails in the same area: Chimney Rock -20 minutes south.
