Summary:
i'm really stunned about the negativity people have posted about these trails. there are technical areas but also areas to rip speed, the drainage is no big deal because getting muddy is part of the game, and the markings aren't going to get you lost because they all eventually spit you out to wherever you left your car. the path is in my backyard so i'm lucky in that i don't have to drive a car there but i promise that all the trails do converge to wherever you're looking to end up. i ride a single speed but opted to go with 29s this year which make the ride easier, as the rock does have a lot of rock and root ( i still even busted my skull yesterday from a deep root hole ), so i'd recommend that, but anyone with 26s can still do plenty of damage. also at the rock there's plenty of diversity for different skill levels, if you're beginner you can seek out the simple stuff and if you're calves are steel there's even a sick 'downhill' area that's wicked fun (up and down). there are definitely some gnarly areas so watch out but they're all pretty conspicuous so there's really no issue there, if you're new, walk it! bum rush ya'll.

Recommended Route:
MUCH BETTER DIRECTIONS THAN THE MTBR GIVES:
FROM ROUTE 78:
- to exit 33 (if 78E make right after exit ramp, if 78W make left)
- go to end of this road to the light (it changes names several times)
- make a right onto washington valley road and a left onto newmans lane to reach the lot on your left
- OR -
- make a a left onto washington valley road and a right onto chimney rock road and a left into chimney rock park parking lot...follow below directions to get to paths from this lot.

Other recommended trails in the same area:
MUCH BETTER DIRECTIONS THAN THE MTBR GIVES:
FROM ROUTE 287:
- to 22E to the thompson ave exit
- make your very first right to go over the bridge (over 22) and keep left (you'll soon pass a quarry on the left). now, there's a really tiny spot to park (not paved or anything) that's on your right about a mile after the quarry and you can enter the trails directly across the street OR...
- you're now on chimney rock road, once the road straightens out you can park at the park on your right (can't miss it)...i recommend parking here because you'll get in an optimal amount of riding, to enter the trails you have to exit the lot where you came in and make a right, go about 50 yards and cross the street when you see a wooden fence running along someone's yard, be courteous and stay on the rock path in these people's backyards and be careful on the bridge there as it's kind of uneven, OR...
- go to the top of chimney rock road to the light and make a left.
- you'll pass a church on your left, make a left onto Newman's Lane just after the church.
- you'll go over a bridge and directly after that is the parking lot on your left.

Summary:
What can I say... this is what you get for someplace that is cheap (free) and not maintained by any organization. It is extremely dangerous since the trail isn't even groomed and going above 5mph is too fast. Might as well walk down the trail cause this is mountain climbing. I ride regularly at Snowshoe Park in Virginia, Diablo Mountain, and Whistler. I thought it might be a good place to get my bike dialed in but it turned out to be a disaster. There are no trail heads and no signs. If you break a leg or ruin your bike, it is hours of walking. I would not recommend this to anyone since it is in the middle of nowhere and in a reservation.

Summary:
I found this place via trial and error, and it will take a few more visits before I know my way around. I rode it on my rigid singlespeed and found the place a perfect match for the bike's gearing. It's true there are plenty of rocky sections but nothing a nice fat front tire can't deal with. Also, most of the climbing seems to be short and anerobic, so a SS is a good option. There is plenty of nice twisty / technical singletrack, some water crossings and a coupld of logs thrown in for good measure. My local trails are Hartshorne and I'd say Chimney Rock offers a nice contrast: Less aerobic, more rolling and probably more technical in the truest sense. Rigid riders, don't be put off by the reviews warning you to stay away; it's not like there are any four foot drop offs to worry about. You will just have to choose smooth lines.

Summary:
last monday we rode from early am till just after lunch in what i would have to say were some of the best winter runs ever! we were able to ride through the woods on top of the ice ,on studs, any where we wanted, we went up down and around never riding on a trail it was awesome we laughed our asses off it was so sweet even when it started getting soft we just shuttled our bikes up the hill in our trucks to get those last couple runs in i call them runs because it was like tree skiing on bikes, in 15 yrs of riding here we never had these conditions it was absolutly awesome !even better than when the trails get packed out and are able to be ridden which dosent happen often, a couple weeks ago during the cold snap there were a couple guys ice fishing so i rode over to them and they were amazed i could ride on the ice till i skidded to a stop. they thought it was cool i had studded tires , but its just a part of the riding gear you need to have when you ride as often as we do. hey i see a lot of trees next to the water are being cut down by beavers look for the beaver dam that they are building its pretty cool .

Recommended Route:
any and all, its all good in the woods!

Other recommended trails in the same area:
6 mile run

Summary:
im in the trails almost every day and as an original designer and builder of this trail network i think it has come a long way i grew up playing in these woods iknow these woods very well 38yrs of being in these woods on everything from mini bikes in the 60s to mtn bikes in the 80s,90s,and now the 00s ive seen alot like when someone broke the drain valve in the 70s and the resi.was empty we rode our dirt bikes in it ,it was cool, But then we couldnt swim in it any more . also we ice skated in the winter, boy those were the days.well we are trying to help more letting others know it is in need of constant trail work i have been back in the woods alot several times a week riding and fixing the trail ,i try to do something every time i go into the woods , draining puddles moving branches or fixing something, i always leave the trails a little better than i found them i have run into rangers a few times this fall and talked about sections that were built wrong like the bridges they have built or should i say dams because there is not any with good drainage they spend valuable time and effort and almost everything they have done is a wast of time .A for effort F for execution ,especially the new trail up by old tullo , i looked at it the 1st day they finished an could see a problem with the route poor drainage in that area trail needs to be rerouted above the wet area i already have a better route that i use and it is way better, then what is with the trail on the east side of newmans ln. parking lot its not any better than the old one whoever is doing these changes should talk to me because they are not thinking the changes out very well ive tried years ago and i even became a volinteer park patrol hoping to be able to help but every time we suggested how to make improvements it fell on deaf ears. its been over14 yrs and they havent figured it out yet so we just keep doing our own thing doing little fixxes here and there .

Recommended Route:
any and all !

Other recommended trails in the same area:
