Allaire State Park
65 reviews
 4 of 5

Mostly tight single track; hard pack dirt w/ a lot of deep sand (especially in summer). Some nasty climbs + some downhill sections. Not overly technical, but still fun. ***Caution!!! Open to hunters during deer season, except Sundays (October until ???) Trails firm up a bit in winter. Good for beginners and experts alike. Can you say Cardio??? One more thing: Rumour has it, the park may be closed at the end of the year to mtn bikes!!! This is due to some irresponsible riders modifying the trails and locking up their wheels, causing major erosion problems. The close should only be temporary, and re-opened once repairs are made. Volunteer by inquiring at the park's ranger station!!!

Summary:
Wow, why all the hate for Allaire? If you're looking for miles upon miles of steep, technical climbs or downhills, huge jumps, and ten-foot dropoffs, you'll hate this place. What you WILL find here is tons of twisty, curvy singletrack, bridge crossings, a few rooty climbs and descents, and yes, sometimes soft sand (don't whine; man up and power your butt through it). There's nothing that an advanced rider will find overly technical or challenging, but there's enough variety and choices to keep a smile on just about anyone's face. Can sometimes get a bit crowded... but hey... its Jersey.

Recommended Route:
The Orange trail is a four mile loop with singletrack, fire roads, a few climbs... and flowers in the early summer that make you feel like you're riding in a floral tunnel. For more of a challenge, head to the unmarked trail to the right out of the parking lot. A few ups and downs will eventually lead to a hard-packed clay trail along a stream with some bridge crossings and climbs. Watch out for angry, hissing geese.

Other recommended trails in the same area:
Hartshorne.

Summary:
Yeah this place is great but to everyone on here stop posting about the freeride area thats how everything always gets torn down at every other park in the state. Some one comes online and posts about it then everyone and their brother flocks to the area some one gets hurt then it gets torn down. If you know about the area cool keep it to yourself or pass it by word of mouth. Keep it off the web. And if you dont have the ability to ride it stay off of it. Its one of the last good spots to ride in central jersey so lets preserve this.

Summary:
Excellent track. I’ve been riding it several days a week for a few years after I was turned onto it by some hard core biking friends. Local knowledge is a must to find what everyone is talking about. Love to hear about the reviews slamming it for sand. Get off the horse trails and find the single track for fast technical rollercoaster rides. These are hard to find but once you discover them you’ll fall in love with this place quickly. There are plenty of established single track so please stay off the closed trails. Check out the area across the road (area E ) for long bridges and jumps. There is fast single track along the river and more bridges down at the North Shore area. For a slower twisty technical tight up and down ride Tiger Woods has it all, several miles if you can find it. Most new comers stay on the white, orange or pink trails. These are not what Allaire is all about and they represent only a very small fraction of the single track available. Ride it with someone who knows it or don’t be afraid to explore. Stay away from the power lines to avoid the sand. From the parking lot with your back to the road the flat higher speed section is to your left. The climbs and descents are to your right from the river up. Plenty for all abilities but for advanced and expert you need to learn the area. It will not disappoint you. Once you figure it out you’ll laugh at the people who put it down.

Recommended Route:
Find someone in the parking lot who is a rider and knows the area and then tag along if you can keep up.

Other recommended trails in the same area:
Highlands areas. More climbing and fast down hill, rockier and a good workout. less diversity than Allaire.

Summary:
I've been riding Allaire for about 18 months now. It's definitely worth checking out if you haven't done so yet. There is a little bit of everything here. Some nice climbs, twisty singletrack, logs, jumps, you name it. There is even some awesome man made bridges if you explore a bit. There are some sandy spots here, but nothing that you can't ride through easily and be back on the dirt. It's pretty easy to get around if you follow the marked trails and they all take you right back to the lot. You can also take some of the many other unmarked trails and find some really cool stuff. I've been riding here for a while now and I still find new trails all the time. The guys also do a really nice job of maintaining the trails, and every so often they make some new ones.

Recommended Route:
Orange or white trail, then take some of the trails that branch off of those. The trail that runs parallel to the river is fun too.

Other recommended trails in the same area:
Clayton (fast and fun), Hartshorne (awesome technical stuff)

Summary:
Allaire is a great place to ride. I ride with the group that built and maintains these trails so they know Allaire like the back of their hands. The sand is not a problem at all since I followed these guys. The single track is very twisty and fast. Its twisty going up and down hill. There are even some crazy spots where you can do jumps and drops. There is also an open area where logs were nailed to the ground and engineered for beginners to practice on. I think its one of the best places to ride in the area.

Recommended Route:
Orange route and then make your way across hospital rd to the river.

Other recommended trails in the same area:
Huber Woods (place I learned to MTB and more technical then Allaire) and Hartshorne (most technical trails in Monmouth County)
