Ridden Trail: Once a week

Cross Country Rider Summary: These trails are a great find in the heart of Concord. From what I've found out there are a whole mess of trails that are partly in Walker State Forest and in the vicinty of Concord Hospital. None are marked however so it's a guessing game, but thats part of the challenge. One cant get too lost though because the land is surrouned by four roads. Some trails are technical with rock gardens and log rolls. Recommended Route: Start at the Unitarian Church( Next to Concord Orthopedics). Park way back in the parking lot, this is where the trail starts. Head up the trail for about a half mile. There are many forks in the trail, but they all hook onto one another. If you make it to the radio tower take a left onto a trail before you get to the gate on Little Pond Rd. This trail is a sweet technical switchback single track trail.

Cross Country Rider Summary: These trails (like other reviewers mentioned) are right in my backyard. I live a door down from Jefferson Pilot (old Chub Life building) so I get up there almost nightly. These trails are pretty challenging for the spring time rider because the rocks get very very slick (at least behind the hospital). As you reach the WEVO tower though take a left on to Long Pond Road and then a right onto Via Tranquill. At the end of the road is the snowshoe club and if you veer right when you get in the technical riding starts again. This is when you enter the Quarry property (most of which is posted because of hazardous waste and the prison shooting range) but there are many trails to take that aren't posted. If you follow the jeep roads up to the top you will find some great places to watch the sunset and look down over the Concord valley. You will also see a lot of the Concord youth trying to cool off by jumping off the cliffs (note to the first timer, the reason there are giant bodies of water up there is because when quarried get closed, they basically fill the pits that usually contain the quarry cranes). You definetley have to keep an eye out for what looks to be a nice drop off some rolling rock could be 20-100ft into the water. Awesome riding though and you can spend the day up there and not see the same trail twice. Here is a link to a map that I found on another site that does a good job of outlining where the trails are. On the very bottom you see the Hospital (under Rum Hill) and to the right you see Blossom Hill Cemetary (right next to Jefferson Pilot) both good places to park and ride. Print this map and then hit the trails! Other recommended trails in the same area: If you are looking for something less technical (IE novice) check out the area behid Broken Ground Elementary School. Roots and a few rocks but otherwise its a nice network of trails that you will find nicely taken care of and not to many other people using.

Cross Country Rider Summary: This is a good system of trails, and a valuable resource if you live in Concord. I rode there almost every day this spring. It's nice because I can ride it from my house. Yes, there's some technical stuff and a little climbing, but to compare it to Mr. Toad's Wild Ride in Tahoe is just plain crazy talk. I used to live in Tahoe. I could ride Mr. Toad's and a dozen other world-class trails from my house (and I did - everyday!). The only resemblance the Hospital Trails have to the trails in Tahoe is the fact that there are rocks and dirt on the ground. Don't get me wrong, this is decent riding, but don't be fooled, it's not for "experts only." As a matter of fact, experts will be bored quickly. It was good early-season riding, but now that other stuff is open, I don't ride there. I'll be back in the fall.
