Great Glen Trails

Varied--fire roads, singletrack, doubletrack. This is great for my family, since my 8 year old can fly on the fire roads, but can learn his singletrack skills on the terrain park, and trails such as Whiplash. We parents can take turns doing the more technical stuff, and meet up with the kids at one of the numerous, well marked trail intersections. The yurts are neat, too. We were sorry to hear of the lodge burning, but look forward to our return this summer.
Summary: I rode the 24 Hrs of Great Glenn in '99. It was awful. It rained and the trails weren't made for that much use, it turned into a big mud fest, but not the fun kind. When we weren't pushing our bikes through mud we got to ride on fire roads. Yippee. Probably a good family area as mentioned in previous reviews. Don't bother if you want a challenge.
Recommended Route: 24 Hour Race Course 1999

Summary: there are dirt roads smoothed every morning which are scenic and very fun for fast downhills. $7.00 is a small price to pay for a place like this. Staff is nice, it's well kept, and well worth a visit.
Recommended Route: Dugway is a grueling acsent and the great ride back down you're hoping for is not awesome. Ride the rest of the singletrack (it varies from trials-rider to technical to beginner, and none of them are long so if you get stuck over your head just walk out.) Don't forget about the aqueduct loop which is across the road from the rest of the trails. the uphill is a tough two miler on a carriage road but the downhill is rewarding wide singletrack. When your getting down almost to the bottom look hard on the right for a hard to see newly cut trail. Also make sure to take the plunge at the end of Outback.
Other recommended trails in the same area: the old rail trail in the Dolly Copp wilderness.

Summary: Took the whole family to this one. Rode around with them on the double track, had a nice lunch at the cabin, and went back. Really beautiful scenery. Loved the place. I took off on my own for 30 min and rode part of the 24 hour race. It was good sweet single track, chicken'ed out going down the steep hill by the base of the Mount Washington Autorode and walked... did not get a chance to do anyother trail but had a wonderful time just the same.
Recommended Route: Follow the 24 hour trail from Mount Washington Auto rode.

Ridden Trail: Every few months

Summary: This is a great area for families. Our 8 year-old can fly on the fireroads, and practice his singletrack skills on the terrain park and trails such as Whiplash. Our more timid kid can stick to the fireroads and doubletrack, and have a great time. We love to meet at the yurt for lunch.
Recommended Route: We like to mix up the trails--some singletrack, doubletrack, adn fun whoop-de-dos on the fireroads. The Outback is challenging, and Whiplash is pure fun.
