Sunset Ridge Trails

The gravel fireroad drops down the hill about 100 yards before you get to ledges or the single track. The trails are mostly singletrack with alittle doubletrack. Most of the trails make loops that bring you back to the area that you started from. Some ledge riding with fun jumps alongside 101. A good downhill run that twists and turns down though a grove of Oak trees and boulders with one 5 foot drop, that can be circumvented if your not up to it. Once down on the flat, cross the brook into some old growth white pine for a fast loop. You can also exit the trail here into the Govenor's Hill Housing developement. Work your way back up the hill and stay to your right there are a couple more trails that follow old feild berms with lots of dips and mounds in the trail

Trail Directions
Interstate 93 to Exit 8 onto Wellington Road going East, take the first right onto Eastern Ave and then left onto Old Wellington Road and then a quick right onto Karatzas. Follow Karatzas to the top of the ridge near the gas lines and park on roadside. Now on your bike continue to follow Karatzas down the back side of the hill, where pavement ends turn right and onto a washed gravel fireroad that continues down the hill. The fun begins here. About 5 miles of trails on this side hill between Wellington Road and Route 101, almost impossible to get lost.

Summary:
Thanks to Krash for turning me on to trail that I lived less than a mile from for over five years! This is a great little trail that I now use on my way from home in East/Cental Manchester to my Massabesic Lake rides (see FOMBA and other Auburn ride reviews). The downhill section leading to the loop at the bottom sure beats the pavement I used to take to the lake! Not an epic trail, but the more dirt in a ride, the better.

Summary:
A good ride. You can ride all the trails in an hour if you ride hard and fast. Makes for a great workout if your short on time.

Recommended Route:
Start from Karatzas and follow it down the hill and stay to your right. Once down on the flat make the loop though the pines. Work your way back up the hill and stay to your right for the berms.

Other recommended trails in the same area:
Lake Massabesic is just a mile away.
