Devil's Den Loop

Massive state-owned trail network maintained by logging activity -- there's nothing like it anywhere. You can choose between the gnarly backside of Devil's Den Mountain, the ease of the fire roads, and hundreds of miles of other trails everywhere in between......
Route 28 to New Durham, Main Street north to Merrymeeting Lake rd, Take North Shore rd once you reach the lake. It's about two miles down North Shore. ....or, you could sign up for one of our tours; get info by emailing
Summary: I went here for the first time a couple of days ago, and enjoyed the ride. A friend of mine gave me a handwritten map of the trails (an old snowmobiler), and told me that a couple of the hills were steep. Well, I ended up going past Devil's Den, and ended up next to Merrymeeting Lake, so I took another trail back, and ended up on top of Mt Caverly (the trail near the top is steep on both sides). It looked like there were several other trails in the area. I am looking forward to exploring them.
Recommended Route: I rode down Middleton road from Wolfeboro, past the lake on the right, then past the small sand pit on the left, and turned right onto Caverly Road (next to a house with nice stone walls).
Other recommended trails in the same area: I am very familiar with the trails on the other side of Middleton road, namely Moose Mountain/Copplecrown Mountain/Tumbledown Dick mountain. These trails are numerous, and can be reached off Middleton road or any side street off Pleasant Valley Road. These are my favorites.

Summary: The Devils Den area was recently logged/cleared. Much of the good fire roads were "fixed" and are no longer that good. The Den single track is still excellant, nearby Mt.Caverly is awesome. It's a bit difficult for the new rider, a bit boring in a few places now for the experienced rider. Probably one of its best drawing points is that there are so many trails and roads that you'll never get bored. It ties in with a lot of other areas.
Other recommended trails in the same area: Copple Crown/Moose Mountain/Tumbledown Dick area. Overall it's a "10". Single track to rough downhill to easy fire road.
