Cross Country Rider Summary: This is a series of small trails that skirt two small hills on either side of the RR tracks. There is a fun section of technical singletrack on either side of the tracks that can be connected by going under the tracks through a tunnel. These two sides can be started by the cell tower near the trailhead on the hill at the South end of Jones and can be ridden in a figure 8 pattern, forwards and backwards for about an 8 mile loop. There is also another 2.5 mile open desert section that connects to the trail that skirts the hill near the south end of Rainbow, on the West side of the RR tracks. Overall this is a fun trail system but the trails degrade quickly so please avoid unnecessary trail damage. There are a couple of rakes left next to the trails so if you see one and have a few minutes rake out a small section of trail to keep things up, we all appreciate it. Explore around if you see mtb tracks, there are other trails going in in the area. Recommended Route: Drive to south end of Jones as road turns left pull off into dirt turnout on right and drive the dirt road through the wash and park next to the power poles. Take the dirt road up the hill to the cell tower, at the top you will see a trail on the right side, that is the beginning of the trails on the East side. Go right to play on short technical trails, go left to ride the loop. For the loop follow the trail around the hillside, it will end at a dirt road next to/ above the RR tracks, go right down the dirt road for a quarter of a mile or so. You will see a tunnel on the left, go through the tunnel and turn left onto the first dirt road. CAUTION! WATCH OUT FOR DOWNED POWER LINES HERE! Follow the dirt road parallel to the RR tracks up almost to the summit, you will find the next trailhead on the right next to a telephone pole. follow the trail to the Y then keep right. The trail will go down near a wash and then back up again. Climb out of the wash area, the trail will go through some silty flat terrain and then follow along the hillside until you end at the powerpole road near the south end of Rainbow. You can turn right and follow this dirt road back to the tunnel. ~ 8 miles. Other recommended trails in the same area: There are trails planned, and currently being constructed in the area. If you explore around and follow the mtb. tracks you may be pleasantly surprised. Please respect the trails and any help with upkeep is greatly appreciated, it is a full time job keeping the trail clear of rocks.
