Copper Basin Trail

High desert singletrack and jeep trails through sage and rocky canyons. The Playground is a rocky mesa with ledges overlooking the surrounding valleys and the town of Battle Mountain. This trail is a good place to stretch your legs when traveling across Nevada.

Summary:
Trail is located about 2 miles south of Battle Mountain on NV HWY 305, not where the gps map shows it. FUN trails options in nevada sage. Great views and flowy trails in a stacked loop system. IMBA helped design segments of the trails, so they are sweet!

Recommended Route:
Playground on ridge = bits slickrock & singletrack mashed together
Dill-Doe Canyon Trail = super fast flowing descent over too soon. link up with:
Limestone Canyon = 7 mile loop or can link up with Longs Canyon if you ride the exposed trail backwards.
Entire 'chilada = Do the long's Canyon Loop. Good fast singletrack with views of the surrounding valleys and mountains - 15 miles worth. The exposed section is rippin' (thanks Dan & Rob @ BLM!)

Dang good ridin' for the middle of nowhere.

Other recommended trails in the same area:
Winnemucca's Bloody Shins trails, lamoyle canyon nr elko. Austin is crud.

Summary:
They did a good job designing this trail to take advantage of the topography. It follows a series of jeep trails, dry washes and constructed singletrack to make some fun loops. I took the intermediate trail, and intend to go back to try the advanced stuff on the ridgeline. Do follow the suggested direction on the trail map at the trailhead - it'll make for some fun downhill on the backside. The trail is well marked but is somewhat overgrown in places - more people need to ride it! I did manage to lose the trail briefly on the out, primarily because I was buzzing along at a pretty good clip through some overgrown cheat grass. Finding it again was simple.

Recommended Route:
There is a beginning, intermediate and advanced loop. Choose according to your skill level.

Other recommended trails in the same area:
This trail would make a fun stop on a multi-day bike tour through Lamoille, Battle Mountain, Austin, Eureka and Ely.

Summary:
This trail Rocks, even though its full of rocks. But that's Neveda for you. It offers something for all experience levels but I best loved the fast and furiously fun single track sections. The playground offers groovy technical rocky stuff to challenge even the trials trained riders. The playground is a loop at the top of a mesa with spectacular views of classic Nevada sagebrush and desolation. No overcrowding here!

Recommended Route:
Follow the green line if you are a beginner, blue if your intermediate, or hang out on black lines if you fancy yourself a hero.
