Ridden Trail: Once a week

, from Reno Summary: This trail is usually called Cow Canyon and there are many riders that are on it during the summer. Once at the top of the single track you can either bomb down or keep heading up towards Peavine. There are two ways of starting Cow Canyon. The best is to go to the second singletrack on your left. Recommended Route: Start at the red gate and head up the fire road. There will be a single track that goes off to the right. Take that up until there is a junction with another singletrack. Take the right hand trail and head up the hill. This hits a fire road that will take you to the top. Other recommended trails in the same area: Keystone Canyon

, from Reno, NV Summary: This is a great loop and fun ride. I like this one a lot, especially when I am pressed for time. For a fit rider the whole thing should take about one hour. This is typical Nevada desert so hydrate. During the summer you will definately sweat on the uphill. The total distance is a little over nine miles and is actually only about 1500 feet of climbing (not 2500 as mentioned previously) in the first six miles. It's a rigorous workout, up sometimes steep fireroads and is brutally rocky in one or two places. But once you get to the top, you'll appreciate the route back down all the more. The downhill section screams for about three miles. Narrow, winding single track that dips and swoops - you've got to love it! Watch out for some really sandy corners near the top that are just waiting to grab your front tire and throw you head over heels if you're not paying attention. The initial section is delightfully free from rocks though and you can haul ass if you're careful. Eventually the trail will dump you just east of Verdi across from the Truckee River. There are a lot of alternate routes that split off from this trail as you come down, but I would recommend following the well marked single track. I have ridden this trail about half a dozen times this season and have never seen another rider. Finding your way back to your starting point is pretty easy. If you get off I-80 at the Mogul exit, take Silva Ranch Rd as it follows the freeway west, then turn left on Mountain Ridge Road where the pavement ends and the jeep roads begin.
