Cross Country Rider Summary: This is a good ride for anyone who lives in Carson City and doesn't want to travel too far. The trail starts out sand and loose and you have a short hard climb of a mile to start with. The best part is the singletrack at the top of the saddle after the initial mile climb. The loop goes around the crest of the hill and offers some great views of Carson and the Carson River Valley. The trail itself is nothing too exciting but offers a lot of rocks and some decent technical riding here and there. I would definitely not recommend this trail for a beginner or someone who isn't familiar with a lot of rocks and sand. The rocks are sharp metamorphic stuff also. I have torn the sidewall out of one tire so far. In the summer this trail is dry and very hot, so plan on a lot of water useage.
There are a lot of little trails wandering off through the sagebrush and sand at the bottom of the hill. These trails are used by a lot of horses and can be loose and torn up. It's almost impossible to get lost so you can fill the time in by riding around on these. I don't know of any I would recommend outside of doing it out of boredom though. Recommended Route: Like it says, park about 100 yards to the left of the green watertank at the end of Koontz lane. The single track starts here and wanders through the sagebrush. If you follow the singletrack almost due east you'll connect with a loose, sandy, and then rocky fireroad that will take you up to the top of the hill. Hang a left and you will intersect the singletrack which crosses the road. Ride the loop and enjoy the scenery. Other recommended trails in the same area: I don't know of any others in Carson. I wish I did. Reno's Jones Creek/Whites/Thomas Creek Trail Network is excellent.

Weekend Warrior Summary: This trail has no good views of Carson, but it isn't the worst trail either. This is not worth going out of your way to ride. Stay out of the sand.
