Ridden Trail: Every few months

, from Fairbanks, Alaska Summary: Riding the route clockwise starting on the dirt above Caughlin Ranch) allows you to descend on the faster Boomtown side. The climb has some really rocky sections that are technically challenging. As the previous reviewer said, reaching the lake is great. Although starting the descent near Verdi really gives a feeling of accomplishment. When you ride this route, forget the car at home - Start and Finish in town. Count on 4 to 6 hours to do this ride. Recommended Route: Try the route clockwise starting above Caughlin Ranch. You'll have a better descent going down to Boomtown. Other recommended trails in the same area: Reno to Lake Tahoe via singletrack along south side of Peavine, Verdi, Dog Valley Road, Henness Pass Road, Emigrant Trail, Truckee and Northstar Ski Area. Also, Reno to Spooner Lake via Mount Rose Highway (pavement) to trailhead in Mount Rose Meadows, down to the Flume trail and ending up at Spooner Lake.......Cooollll !!!

Recommended Route: Both ways is a chalenge and an excellent adventure. Great high Sierra terrain and views. Other recommended trails in the same area: Tahoe Rim Trail from Mt. Rose Hwy over summit to the end of the meadow to Spooner Lake at Hwy 50. Excellent views of both Lake Tahoe and Washoe Valley/Lake. Two highlites of the ride are the view from the peak over looking Marlett Lake to the west and the Aspen grove just before Marlett Lake. Chalenging ride. About 25 miles. Intermediate to advanced.
