Schramm Park State Recreation Area

This trail has only recently been opened up to bikers so please don't mess it up! It is a great beginner off-road trail. It is also fun for the advanced rider who wants to blaze through a fast trail. It is mostly singletrack with a very short doubletrack area. There is some awesome scenery and a large hanging bridge which you cross on your bike which is a lot of fun. There are two main loops to ride. Look at the map of the park below to visualize the loops a little better.
This park lies between Omaha and Lincoln on I-80. From I-80 take Exit# 432 and head 6 miles South. From there follow the signs to the park entrance. If you are heading from South of I-80, the park lies 6 miles west of the junction of NE 31 and NE 50.
Summary: I worked at schramm park and did most of the work on the trail there this summer. There are 2 log crossings, one that is easy and one thats more difficult. They are located at the bottom of the hill just about 100 yards from the entrance. There are also three sets of stairs that can sneek up on a person if they aren't paying attention. There are 3 bridges in all, one supension and two regular bridges and they are all located on the larger loop (loop 2). The place has awesome scenery. There are no horses and for the most part (unless its a holiday) very few people If your looking for water check the bathrooms on the east side of the hatchery museum.
Recommended Route: My favorite route is to start from the bottom of the hill entrace and ride up til you get to the break in the trail. I ride trail 2 and then when you're up by the 4H camp there is a service road that bombs down to the very backside of the hill. Then I ride the rest of trail two and and finish back down at the bottom. There are also lots of paths of the main one, I don't recommend going full bore on these the first time you ride them because there are lots of fallen logs and some of them throw you in the creek.
Other recommended trails in the same area: Platte River St. Park and Indian Cave St. Park Both are awesome.

Summary: I try to get out to Schramm as much as possible because it is a lot of fun in my book. I have came across plenty of deer, turkey, as well as all sorts of birds while riding through the park. Keep in mind that most of the trail is not singletrack, and not overly technical, but in my mind this does not take away from the enjoyment of the trail. I think I have seen maybe one log crossing, and a few downhill portions that require a little bit of skill. This is just a good trail to ride if you want a relaxing ride, and as the previous reviwer stated, a good "breaker-in" trail. Make sure you bring water with you, because I have yet to find any source of water here. Most of the trail is under the canopy of trees, so it stays relatively cool. Also watch out for hikers with their dogs and such, as it is a multi-use trail. Have fun!
Recommended Route: Previous reviewer pretty much layed out all possible routes. One thing to keep in mind is if you end up in that other parking lot, there is a fairly steep uphill climb ahead of you. But you will be able to gauge whether you want to ride that steep of a grade when you drive up to the trailhead.
Other recommended trails in the same area: Swanson Park, Lake Manawa, Lewis and Clark Memorial, Wabash Trace, Wilderness Park

Ridden Trail: Once a month

Summary: This is a great beginner's off-road trail. Ride it fast and furiously, and then bring your friends to "break them in" to off-road biking. It's very close to Platte River and Mahoney so I usually do this trail first and then head to one of those other two locations. The hanging bridge is pretty cool. See if you can do it really fast without crashing into the sides! :)
Recommended Route: The trailhead is on top of a hill- drive around until you find it. There is a map there. It starts off on a small gravel path which leads to the singletrack trail. Ride trail #1 until it forks and take an immediate right. This will take you to loop #2. Once you're done with loop #2, if you take a right onto the part of Trail #1 which you haven't gone on, you will end up at a different parking lot than where you started. You will have to bike back up to the parking lot where you started. If you don't want to do this, go straight which will lead you eventually back to the parking lot where you started. I usually blaze through this loop about 2-3 times before heading to Platte River State Park (it's a great warm-up).
