i have encounterd 4 bears whilst riding in montana,
near coeru d'lene,id and kanasakas provincial park in BC. also ridden thru area covered in grizzscat near Bannff. in BC a woman was killed by a grizz near where i had ridden.
SO A WORD OF ADVICE: IF YOU RIDE IN BEAR COUNTRY YOU WILL LIKELY ONCE OR TWICE MEET A BEAR.
montana has blacks, which are very unlikely to cause harm, and grizzlies(or browns) which will kill you. find out where they are!

Summary: ok, this is just silly...
It's MT, we all know there are beats around. Big hairy beats...
If you were a beat, just minding your own beatness, eatin' some berries, and some fleshy little wad on two wheels came charging down the mountian tward you wouldn't you feel compelled to knock it's head off?
Put a little bell on your bike, stay aware of your surroundings, and you wont have to worry about being "attacked" by a beat.
Recommended Route: avoid the beats...
