Collar Peak Trail (BLM)

Good mountain singletrack, loops up to Collar Peak and back, lots of variety and scenery, some screamin' downhills and leg burning uphills.

Summary:
Fun, quality Montana singletrack in the obscure Judith mountains. Trail starts suprisingly high and then contours down and around drainage before it meets the ridge that leads to Collar Peak. Interesting rolling terrain followed by consistent climbing to a stellar open summit with 360 degree views of the Little Belts, Bear Paws, Big Snowies and plains of eastern Montana. Hard to believe that this trail is 6 miles long (probably round trip) but it is definitely a worthwhile ride where solitude is almost guaranteed.

Recommended Route:
Pretty self explanatory out and back to the peak. Didn't see any junctions along the way.

Summary:
A very fun trail that doesn't take that long to do. I ride it during the summer and have never seen anyone else on it, so the solitude is nice. The uphill to the top is gradual until about the last 1/2-1/4 mile, then it gets pretty steep. It can be done as a loop or an out and back. I prefer the out and back, the downhill is a little bit better if you go back the way you came.

Grand View Trail, Big Snowy Mtns.
