Bluff View Trail

Average Rating:    (5 of 5)

No. of Reviews: 1

Bluff View trail was built in 2012 by GORC and Americorps volunteers as an addition to the St. Louis county network of trails. This 5 mile round-trip singletrack trail features some rocky outcroppings, sustained climbs and descents and beautiful terrain. The trail's namesake will make you stop in your tracks to take in the expansive view of the Meramec river and Crescent Valley. If you know where to look you can pick out hints of the Chubb trail hillsides and a section of the Al Foster.

The Bluff View trail connects to the Al Foster trail and will soon connect to the Rock Hollow paved trail. Between Sherman Park, Al Foster, Rock Hollow and now Bluff View, you can assemble a lengthy ride in multiple configurations.

Excellent trail that includes elements of fast flowy dirt singletrack with a seasonal stream-crossing and several technical stretches with roots and rocks. The technical sections aren't overly difficult for anyone but the cautious beginner. From the trailhead on the Al Foster side the trail is on the average a climb to the top of a bluff. The intelligent routing of the trail into the woods keeps the climb gradual and relatively easy on the lungs. As it stands, the trail is a 5 mile "out and back" that starts at Al Foster with a gentle climb for 2 miles to the view and then another .5 to the termination of the trail at Old State Road. Add in nearby trails at Sherman Beach, RockHollow and through the private property to Castlewood and this is a great area to ride.

The greater plans of the Great Rivers Greenway are to 'officially' connect the Al Foster to Castlewood and the Chubb trail. And also extend the trail out west to Babler park through to the Monarch Levee and across the river to the Katy trail. As I write this review in 2013 I hope that future readers 7 years from now are enjoying the completion of connections to all the aforementioned areas. That should be one of the keys measures of success for Great Rivers Greenway.

Recommended Route:
Start low on the Al Foster, climb 2 miles to the view, then climb .5 further to Old State road. Turn around and head back down to Al Foster.

Other recommended trails in the same area:
Stinging Nettle, Al Foster, Greensfelder
