Stocksdale and Walnut Woods

This is the newest trail in the KC area. It is still in development and should be complete in 2010 with about 7 miles of singletrack. It currently is a stacked loop design with two loops. The first loop is in open field with contours and prairie grasses. The second loop is in dense woods and is tight singletrack with little to no flat sections.

Trail is not technical, but is challenging when ridden at higher speeds.

Keep an eye out for further trail additions.

Summary:
Just an update to the trail. There is now another 1.2 miles of trail open for riding. The new section remains tight and twisty, but is quite a bit more technical. There are some logs to ride over. There is also a monster root. There are about 6 drainage/creek crossings that are armored. The armoring varies from quite wide to quite narrow. As with the first phase, you will have a hard time finding a section of trail that isn't either up or down. This section of trail crosses a cross country running trail in a few spots, so be aware of walkers, runners. As always, yield trail.

Recommended Route:
Ride it both directions.

Other recommended trails in the same area:
Smithville, Landahl, Swope.

Summary:
This trail is all about fast and furious fun. Right now, it is only a few miles long but they have managed to squeeze as much fun in that distance that you will come out with a huge cheesy grin on your grill.

Be careful because it is very easy for your handlebar to get jiggy wit it with a tree if you aren't careful about where you are at on the trail.

This trail offers alot of downhill slopes so you will have plenty of fast time. Just be wary that there are lot of sharp turns and weaving so you don't get caught by surprise.

Summary:
Not technically demanding, but great fun to ride! Ride it faster to make it more challenging. I'll bet you hit at least one tree if you take it at speed! Beautiful singletrack in the trees. All the work was done by volunteers, and it is amazing that the volunteers were able to coordinate the city and the MO Dept of Conservation to get this done, great job! Truly a great asset for this urban area!!!! Probably not worth driving more than 1/2 hour to get to, but if you are in the area well worth riding. I'm biased but I think it is one of the most fun single track trails I've ridden. It's not Bryce Canyon, Colorado, Wyoming etc., but it's still can be tons of fun for those of us that live close.

Recommended Route:
The trail is pretty short now, but is being added to this winter. Ride it one direction once, take in the recently added loop (10-2008), then ride it the opposite direction. If you do the loop both ways, and ride out to the trail from downtown Liberty, that will give you a good 1+ hour ride.

Other recommended trails in the same area:
Landau, and Smithville lake are longer and more technical.
