Downhiller Summary:
I've ridden Cave Hollow and even Culp Park located by Lions Lake right across the street from Pertle Springs. I hadn't been out on Pertle's trails in a couple of years because of all the fallen trees and lack of University support for trail maintenance. I recently said screw it and went out there to do work and ran into a couple of guys who recently got permission from the University to work on the trails. Give us a couple of nice work days out there and the 4-5 miles worth of trails will be ridable once again and a nice addition to the previous trails mentioned. I see this being the longest trail system in the Burg in the not to distant future. Ride On! Recommended Route:

Downhiller Summary:
Leave the bike at home for this one. The paths are too narrow in some places and was really designed for hiking. It's nice to see for the hystoric aspect. Pertle used to be a healing water's resort and the foundations of the old buildings are scattered about. If you're real brave go find the fire place in the middle!!! You'll get it when you find it. Other recommended trails in the same area:
Hit Cave Hollow while you're in the Burg. Biking can be very tricky here, but if you don't mind a walk and have 30 to 60 min to kill go for it. Located at the end of Gay Street on the west side of town.

I grew up here and used to hike this area long before the old lodge burned down. I've watched the trails slowly expand 'til they're just barely long enough to justify bringing your bike if you already have a visit planned and if you also plan on visiting Knob Noster State Park. If there were a few more miles and they were marked better, I'd raise my rating ... still, it's cool that bike trails even exist here. The east-west road at the intersection at Pertle Spg's entrance is Burkharth Road. Less than a mile east of that entrance, Burkharth becomes Hwy DD. Take this paved county road straight east for about nine or ten miles to Knob Noster State Park (see that post for the beta). Also, if you're a climber, bring your shoes and check out the fine "buildering" on campus (e.g., Lovenger and W.C. Morris buildings). Recommended Route:
Straight up the fire road to the old CCC camp (don't bother with the fields on your right), then veer left and explore back north towards park entrance. Other recommended trails in the same area:
Some parts of Knob Noster S.P. are worth riding.
