Summary:
This trail has lots of potential - nice topography and pretty countryside. In the current state it's in it's hard to see how mtn bikes are intended users. Most of the singletrack trails are so eroded and rocky (likely due to horses) that you can't even keep up speed on the descents. The "challenging dry creekbeds" are at best frustrating and at worst destructive to all but the most heavy-duty equipment -and this is definitely not a DH course. I was hoping for rocky technical sections interspersed with flowing smooth singletrack, but everything is rocky, some hills are so loose they are unclimbable and there's no flow.

With some trail design/maintenance this place could rule. It isn't worth doing the trail work, however, if the mtn trails get wrecked by horses.

I agree with Barry - if a local can post a nice flowing route that avoids the unridable eroded, loose rocky ups and downs and the creek beds, then this place would rule!

Recommended Route:
I parked at the first sign Huckleberry Ridge sign I saw going eastbound from 71 and stayed on the eastbound singletrack parelleling the roadway in the woods as long as I could.

Summary:
This is classic Ozark mountain riding, being steep rocky and challenging. In the summer, the dense woods make for hot and humid conditions. There are about 15 miles of trail back in there, and the area covers some 2000 acres according to the forest service. The trails are easy to find from the parking area.

Recommended Route:
From the second parking area on the south side of K highway going east from 71 highway the old race course starts and you will see it along the side of the road as you go in. There are alos trails on the north side of K, you will have to keep a lookout for them on the drive in.

Other recommended trails in the same area:
Roaring River state park, Cassville.

Summary:
I rode Huckleberry back in '92 but couldn't find anything really compelling. As I recall, there were some short horse loops and at least one very loose, rocky, jeep road. My rating would bump up at least one tire if there was at least one, easy-to-follow, trail of 5 miles or more in length. I thought the area was actractive -- unimproved and remote forest -- but without any organized system of trails. If "the good stuff" exists at Huckleberry, I'd like to see a "local" post a detailed description of how to find it.

Recommended Route:
Trial and error

Other recommended trails in the same area:
Crowder was a good ride.
