Numerous interconnecting loops that feature some elevation change, a couple of log crossings, rooted steep sections and a creek crossing complete with waterfall. This trail is impossible to navigate and make any distance on without someone that knows their way--I'm still trying to figure it out. A race is hosted here every year, but it isn't clear what course they use to navigate through the park and get some distance. I'm posting it since it wasn't here and I'd been driving to Omaha or KC to ride, though I still don't know my way around Krug. Reviewers please!
Krug Park: Hwy 59 and Karnes Rd. in St Joseph. Trails can be accessed at multiple points in the park. Watch the right side of the road as you loop the park for trailheads.
Summary: Wife and I stopped here on Our way to Landahl on Friday. This place is not as bad on hills like the one guy thought, but the spiderwebs were insane! I think one actually stopped my bike. I couldn't believe that it was a Friday late afternoon-early evening, and it was almost as if nobody had rode there in a week or better. There are all the makings of some great trails, just need to be marked better, I mean just marked. There are so many interconnecting loops, you could run circles for an hour and still only be 5 minutes from the parking lot. As for the waterfall, found that in 10 min. Luck I guess. Really need maps for the place. The hills are there and will be a good workout. Watch out for the dead limbs in the trees. One almost wiped me out. Fell from up high and landed about 10 feet out.
Recommended Route: What route.
Other recommended trails in the same area: Landahl.

Summary: HILLS! I rode this trail about half a dozen times when I lived in St. Joe in the late 90's. HILLS! It was a nice workout and very conveniently located in a nice big park not far from the parkway. HILLS! I recently returned and rode it again after years more riding experience. HILLS! The same trails were there, slightly more eroded and there were many more new trails besides. HILLS! There are some good obstacles, like a teeter totter and several bridges, at least two big ones and at least three or four that were about eight inches wide. HILLS! The terrain is a lot like this post so far: filled with HILLS! There are some fun, fast, flats, but they are few. Mostly you are encountering short very steep hills. Some of these hills are very very steep and the result is that some routes are essentially monodirectional. There has been a lot of motorcross riding in the past and some of the best trails are old motorcross trails. Locals would do well to combat erosion on some of these as there is noticeable deterioration since I was there in, let’s see, ’98. Rut are like runts (kids), you can’t see them growing day by day, but when you see a one you haven’t seen in a while, it’s amazing how much they’ve grown. Though most of the very steep hills are fairly short, there was at least one which was very long. I thought I was going to go over backwards! The result is a nice mix of strenuous, often technical (roots and rocks) climbs and thrilling downhills (both smooth and technical). My wife and I rode for two to two and a half hours and didn’t cover the whole place. I’d estimate that we covered about 40% of it. We rode recon-style, so I’d say a good upper-intermediate rider could ride for two solid hours full on like a lizard drinkin’ and never have to get too creative. An intermediate rider could easily get three-plus hours out of Krug. The locals have done a great job with the new trails and I wish them the best of luck. There’s a bikeshop in town now called Ride Bikes. http://www.ponyexpress.net/~ridebic/
Recommended Route: The best stuff is the "red zone" up toward the river. See the map at the trailhead.
Other recommended trails in the same area: If you are in St. Joe, you're within two hours of both Landahl and Minor which are both great. You're also a mere three hours away from Columbia, the mountain biking capital of the world!

Summary: I grew up right by this trail and used to ride it a lot. It's a good time, with lots of steep inclines, exposed roots and several very skinny (2 ft wide) bridges to cross. There are some good shoots and jumps, and some logs in the path, and even a waterfall if you can find it (it's tough). Lots of downhill, only drawback is that what goes down must come up.
Recommended Route: From the parking lot, go between the two big rocks down the main trail, and veer off to your right. Lots of goodies over there. Explore, it's a confusing place, but full of nice surprises.
Other recommended trails in the same area: Corby Pond trails, very close to Krug, small, but a good time.

Summary: There are several miles of new trails that have been cut in the past year--which is the best part of the trail system at Krug. The new stuff includes multiple creek crossings--both with bridges and without, very tight and technical (new east section) with alot of climbing/descending. If you haven't ridden Krug during the past year you owe to yourself to try it again. Several of the trails are hard to find but maps are available at Ride Bicycles or drop me an e-mail and I'll show you the trails or find someone local for you to ride with.
Other recommended trails in the same area: Sun Bridge (Officialy closed but Conservation Dept. turns their head to mountain bikes)
