Clear Creek

The trail is nearly 8 miles long with a vertical difference of 100' from low to high points. The trail takes you up and down multiple times providing some great downhills and of course plenty of climbs. The trail drains well after rains and is all hardpack singletrack. The folks of Oxford take pride in maintaining this trail in excellent shape. A challenging trail less than 2 hours from Memphis TN.

Summary:
This trail is relly fun, lots of great downhill, with leg and lung burning climbs as well. Technical enough to make you pay attention. and long enough for a good workout. Trail is well designed and very well maintained. I particularly liked the solitude of this trail, as well as the lack of traffic getting there.(provided you not go on Ole Miss game day) One other detail is that this trail has so much hilly terain that it drains very well and can be ridden shortly after it has rained. I have ridden many trails and this one may be my favorite. I intend on making it a weekly trip.

Recommended Route:
Clockwise from trailhead. Ther is a good bike store in oxford that can assist with directions advise on trail condition, or assist with some repairs.

Other recommended trails in the same area:
Fruit loops in Oxford, Arkabutla lake trail, or Stanky, wolf river, or Herb Parsons in Memphis.

Summary:
First time on this trail, drove down from Memphis. This trail is definetly worth the drive. Fun downhills countered with some tough climbs. I bit it pretty hard the first 1/4 mile of the ride and hurt my knee pretty bad, however, the trail was so fun that I grinned and beared the entire 10 miles. If you are within two hours of this trail, it is defintely worth the drive.

Other recommended trails in the same area:
Stanky Creek in Bartlett, TN

Summary:
I rode this trail for the 1st (and last) time last week. I was down from Omaha, NE visiting my parents and brought my bike to ride while on vacation. Needless to say, I was disappointed! It seemed like the trail hadn't been ridden on or maintained since the last review was written.

I felt like Spiderman while riding... I can't count the number of spider webs I went through. Some spiders were as big as my thumb!

Besides the spiders, there were many old trees that fell across the trail causing me to dismount and hike around. It appeared they had been down for some time because the branches/leaves were dead. I rode 3/4 of the trail then decided I had enough of "clearing the trail".

Topping off my adventure, I realized when I got home that my feet were covered with chiggers. So I now have a visual and itchy reminder of a trail that I would rather forget.

I recommend skipping this trail until some improvements are made. Clear Creek has the potential to be a great trail if it's maintained. Sorry to all the locals who might read this and get offended. Lastly, take the advice to use bug spray on yourself BEFORE riding!

Recommended Route:
Driving directions given on the website are accurate. Trailhead is not marked and can be easily missed.

Summary:
Pretty good trail. I agree with dkuhlman's description 100%. I would like to add two things though. I went through more spider webs (70 - 90)the first lap here than all other trails I've ever ridden combined. Even the second lap in the opposite direction immediately following the first I ran through 10 or so. I was covered when I was done. Secondly, I was ate up by chiggers. They got down my socks into my shoes, ate up my ankles and legs something terrible. I've been scratching them for two weeks. I guess my point is, wear insect repellent and if you have a spider phobia... stay away or ride it in the dead of winter. It is a nice trail.

Recommended Route:
It flows much better if you ride it starting at the trailhead which begins at the corner of the first campsite on the right!

Other recommended trails in the same area:
Can't say... don't live around there. I was on a business trip.
