Ridden Trail: Once a week

Weekend Warrior Summary: new to the area and started biking here about a three weeks ago. The trail off the "new" hiking trail..(heading south by the boat ramp) is the main trail i've ridden. I Stick to the Blue tape as it seems to be the most tagged route. There are intersecting trails all ove the place so be sure to look for the color codes for the trail you want to explore. I would say it is not very Tech. but there are some climbs that are challenging and force you to bring your A game to stay on the bike....there are a hell of a lot of Roots which makes the ride pretty rough/annoying for only a hardtail and this is my only major grip of the place (havent ridden in this terrain before..aka roots friggin everywhere).
I would say a great place for a beginer to slowly build climbing tollerance, balance technique and downhill control because of the up down nature of the trails. Also there is always an easy out for the "call it a day" crowd because of the new 6 foot wide small gravel hiking trail which the bike trail crosses from time to time. This new hiking trail leads you back to the starting point no questions asked...."get out of jail free" ride if you will. Recommended Route: Blue route for now...until I find/discover another route. Like i said above there are intersecting trails everywhere so be prepared to explore your own route for first timers.
Most all of the trails are not ridden with that much frequency...so be carefull not to go off the trail. It might be hard to see the path at times.
Word to the wise...becare when you ride after a storm...I've ridden this trail about 5 times and it seems every time I ride there is new dead fall blocking the trail. Other recommended trails in the same area: none yet.

Weekend Warrior Summary: The Bonita Lakes trails are some of the best in the state. They are well-maintained and there are a lot of them - much more than what has previously been estimated on these posts. Not very technical, but there are a lot of short (but steep) hills interspersed along with the usual flat rooty sections found in southeast US trails. Easy to ride if you are a beginner, but also good for a intense aerobic workout if that is what you are looking for. The trails are well maintained and marked with signs. Other people have complained that you have to share the space with horses, but it seems to me that everybody has separate routes now. There is obviously some "color code" at play here (with tape and or spray paint), but I haven't exactly figured it out yet - I have been following the blue tape which seems to leave me on hard packed single track. Recommended Route: Other people have suggested starting out on the right side of the road just after the pavilion (and there are some trails there) but what I like to do is park by the boat ramp and then ride south to where the park service is building the new road (you can see it from the parking lot) - ride around the gate and down the road and you will then see the trailhead about 30 yards in on the left. You can ride a long way - probably can get all the way around the upper lake if you wanted to. Other recommended trails in the same area: Little Colorado (Jackson), Bude/Clear Springs but
Bonita Lakes is worth the drive from Jackson just to ride.

Weekend Warrior Summary: These trails are nice, worth it to check out if you are less than a half tank of gas away. But if you haven't been to clear springs check that out first. These trails are smooth sailing with a couple of nice size hills to go up and some nice views of the lake. Recommended Route: ? when i first went i drove my car in to the left and started on the opposite side as the trail. this side sucks i felt like i was in the derby there is so many horse tracks. when you drive in go across the damn dam. you'll find the rest Other recommended trails in the same area: clear springs, bethel road

, from pascagoula, ms Summary: this trail system has several routes mixed in with old trails to new trails that have been cut in over the past few years. i have been riding bonita lakes for 9 years now and i still think it is the best trail system in the state of mississippi for a serious cardio workout and one of the top trail systems in all of the southeastern united states. this place is a real blast and worth the 3 hour drive from the coast.
