Ridden Trail: Once a week

Weekend Warrior Summary: Good for beginners. I didn't have any mountain biking experience my first year doing the Cheq Short & Fat. The second year, I started riding this trail in July and shaved 55 minutes off my time. The trail is almost always dry. There is one gully that fills up with water but you can walk or ride around (just make sure your tire doesn't fall in a rut and make you wipe out). Enjoy seeing the egret fly away as you do. I've encountered horses running loose on the trail and some riders, as well as people walking their dogs, but the trail is usually wide enough to get around them. Recommended Route: I do the outer B loop and pick up the inner A trail for an 8 mile ride. I do it twice if I want more of a workout. Other recommended trails in the same area: You tell me. I rode this trail after work and just got a new job across town. I need a new trail!

Weekend Warrior Summary: Great trail for introducing new riders to MTB. It convinced me to get into serious MTB rides and can do the same for others. No hardcore technical details but a good endurance track with hills, some sharp turns, a few good climbs, and sand make the outside loop (8 miles) CLOSE to intermediate; gives newbies a taste for more. The downside, it is a shared with horses so watch out for the brown stuff. I've never meet a horse on the trail even on weekends, though I see the trailers. The only cost is a park car permit, $20 a year. Plus you don't see much of the outside world as you ride through prairies, woods, and view nearby lakes in this 2100+ acre preserve. With sections the whole family can ride (bonus points) make it a day and include the free swimming lake (man-made). With camp grounds spend the night and take a trip to nearby Battle Creek (10 miles) and Lebanon Hills (20 miles). Recommended Route: The outside loop when alone (route A).
Inner loops and/or paved trails with the family. Other recommended trails in the same area: Battle Creek - intermediate and Lebanon Hills - great technical track, intermediate to advanced ; and they are both free

Ridden Trail: Once a week

, from Stillwater, MN Summary: I rode this trail this morning. I am still a beginner, trying to get a feel for mountain biking and looking for off-road trails that will let me practice what I am trying to learn but without punishing my mistakes too severely. This trail has a lot to offer: some small climbs, loose rocks, sand, gullies and ditches, some nice downhills, sharp turns, a couple of the tracks where washed out with high water (had to get off and wade through), mud, and a long loop for endurance (and time to recover and think over that you should be doing). I am sure hardcore MTBs would prefer Lebanon, and probably dont think much of this review, but they should get over themselves and appreciate what the park has to offer. A good ride. Recommended Route: As above.

, from St. Paul Summary: Best training park. Average Time and speeds are about the same as my Chequamegon 40 speeds. It's a pedalers trail. Recommended Route: Outer Loop (for the longest loop)
