Summary:
Nice single track and some really fun sections, like pow pow if you know where to find them. Some sections that will challenge intermediate riders. Great fall colors in the gorge. Well maintained by local riders who adopt sections of trail every year. You can get a great aerobic work out with the ups and downs probably the second greatest amount of vertical in the area next to Copper Harbor.

Recommended Route:
I like the Chain Drive course. The beauty of the trails is its proximity to Churning Rapids (a private area where the land owners have opened it to the public for hiking/biking. You can make just about any kind of ride you want.

Other recommended trails in the same area:
MTU Trails - similar in style, single track a bit more twisty, not as much distance, but fun, has a litte something for everyone.
Copper Harbor - more technically and vertically challenging trails available.
Swedetown - Single track for beginners and intermediates, where I go for relaxing rides. Great color in the fall.

Summary:
While Maasto is rocky, technical and fun...Churning Rapids is a dream trail system. Flowing singletrack, singletrack, singletrack with challenging climbs and screaming descents and little bit for every ability. Thanks to folks that keep the trails open to non-motorized use. You should also hit the Chain Drive Festival on Father's Day Weekend..point to point that hits all the highlights of both trail systems. Thumbs up!

Recommended Route:
Head north from the Houghton County Arena through Maasto to Churning Rapids.

Other recommended trails in the same area:
MTU Trails under recovery after ski trail development but still fun singletrack if you know where to look. Head up to Copper Harbor for spectacular scenery and trails. Sam & Tony at Keweenaw Adventure can send you in the right direction. Enjoy

Summary:
Lived in Hancock for a couple years in college and rode these trails 3 or more time a week. Lots of climbing and plenty of technical down hills on some trails, yet long out and backs for others. Recently has been connected with Churning rapids preserve. This is private property that is willingly opened to the public. Please respect that and use common sense in wet conditions.

Recommended Route:
Hard to explain, read posted maps and head for Churning rapids

Other recommended trails in the same area:
MTU ski trails, Bridge trail
