Summary:
Agree with May 2012 review, we quit @ Kelly Rd as it was nearly impassable for our 3 mountain bikes, one with a trailer. The limestone is so soft, we nearly fell several times as we bogged down. This trail is useless for bikes!!!

Summary:
The condition of the trail at this time reveal heavy use by horseback riders and ATVs and the surface of the trail as a result is very rutted and soft rendering bicycling practically impossible. This is NOT a cycling trail! It is a horse trail. We started at the Depot in Pinckney and had to abandon after 3.2 miles at the intersection of Kelly Rd.

Summary:
I had not seen any recent reviews of this trail and hoped that perhaps it had been graded or repaired since the most recent review of last year. Alas, that was not the case. I got on the trail at the depot parking lot in Pinckney and rode 20 minutes west before I couldn't take it anymore. Where it wasn't rutted and hard packed divots from horse hooves, it was impassable loose sand. It is truly unfortunate as it is a lovely ride and would be excellent for family outings. Don't bother with this trail unless you are walking or on a horse, which as a previous reviewer notes, limits the use of a nice state park to a very select few.

Summary:
I agree with "justDave" completely. This trail has been trashed by horses and wagons. It's pitted and rutted by horse hooves and is completely useless as a biking trail unless you like to have your teeth rattled out of of head. It's a shame because the trail goes through some very scenic countryside that can still be enjoyed if you are a hiker. But the bike designation should be dropped by the state unless they improve the trail and eliminate horses. Your state taxes were used to make a trail from a railroad grade so a handfull of horse back riders and horse drawn wagons from the local area could enjoy it; a privledged few.

Recommended Route:
none for bike riding, pick any from stockbridge to Pinkney for hiking
