Two loops: Blue - a few longer climbs, non-technical, mostly hardpack. Beginner trail. Yellow - slightly more technical, with a few quick downhills, and a couple switchbacks. Decent intermediate trail.

Summary:
Good trail for weekday rides, the weekends are still a poser hangout for expensive rigs. The trails are fast and the riders tend to get their rocks off passing others. I would go to brighton or poto for a challenging or less crowded ride. Milford is good for beginners to work on technical skills without the crowd. Oh yea if you wanna stare middle aged peeps in lycra here is your mecca, I thought it was a rodie hangout with all the lycra at first.

Recommended Route:
Both do the yellow first then the blue, total time roughly 1hr 35min.

Other recommended trails in the same area:
Poto, Brighton (Murray lake), or Milford.

Summary:
Thought I would give a recent review - did the trail early Dec '11. Good aerobic workout - trail is fast flowing with very little technical - leaves and greasy sections made it very interesting. A typical single track for the lower MI area. They're all good - some are better than others!

Recommended Route:
started @ blue loop then yellow.

Other recommended trails in the same area:
Torn shirt (Brighton Rec Area), Maybury, Novi Tree Farm, Stony Creek.

Summary:
Island Lake is a very beautiful park with nice rolling hills. The trails are hard packed for the most part with some areas of sand. The trail is mostly flat on the blue loop with a few climbs and a fun downhill that is a little off camber on the side of a hill. The yellow loop is slightly more technical with a few climbs and some fast descents. Overall the trail is very fast and has lots of good high speed corners. Also, there are very clearly visible mile markers.

Recommended Route:
I would recommend riding the Blue Loop first and then riding Yellow. The trail markings can be a little confusing. The trails crosses roads and paved paths. Every time you come to a road or path you will end up crossing it. Some of the road crossings require jogging a little ways left or right. Follow the blue or yellow colored posts and the arrows on them.

Other recommended trails in the same area:
Maybury, Highland, Pontiac Lake

Summary:
This trail is best riden with a road bike. The most refined and smooth trail in Michigan, the best part is the quasi-jump in the parking lot. Honestly, my carbon Zurich has riden it twice!

Recommended Route:
Loop the yellow. Blue is sandy and offers very little flow.

Other recommended trails in the same area:
Pontiac Lake, Highland Rec,
