A mix of wide open gravel two track and freshly carved single track. The trail is very well marked using ski style symbols (green circle, blue square, black diamond)

Take I-696 to Van Dyke north to 26 mile road west. There will be signs directing you into the park. Once inside the park turn left and enter the West Branch parking lot.

Summary:
Stony Creek is a great little ride. The pines are low and can sometimes be muddy, but the rollercoaster rarely is and is a lot of fun. It's not super long, but a little over an hour if you do all the single track.

Recommended Route:
Start at the highest parking lot in the west branch, there is a trail map here. From here you can head to all the single track. Hit the pines, roller coaster, switchbacks and even a little DH that doesn't get used much right near the 27 marker on the trail.

Other recommended trails in the same area:
Pontiac Lake, Highland State Park

Summary:
Tried this trail while visiting relatives in the area. Glad I did! The "difficult" sections are the fun stuff! There is only about a half hour worth of it, but it's a blast. Well maintained trail. I'll come back!

Summary:
The easy and moderate sections of this trail will be absolutely boring for more advanced riders. The difficult trails are a blast but there is only few miles of them. If you want to find out if mountain biking is for you then this is the place to go.

Summary:
I ride this trail once a week on average, as it is on my way home from work.
This trail is not the most techincal, but it does have a good flow to it. There are sections where you can pick up a lot of speed. Overall, it is one of the faster trails I've ridden. This trail also dries out quickly after a rain.

The Pines:
This would be what I consider to be an intermediate singletrack, and is about 1 1/4 miles long. It is generally quite flat, with some nice flowing corners. There are a couple of small log piles, and a rather nice rock garden. Beware of the bridge when it's wet.

The Snakes and Rollercoaster:
The snakes provides the fun way up the hill, with some nice switchbacks.
The rollercoaster is the main singletrack in the park, and is about 3 miles long, if you ride all legs. There are 2 bailout points. At the first fork, hang left to continue, take a right to bail. At the second (where it crosses the double track), continue straight (turn to bail). There is a fairly challenging hill midway through the first leg. This singletrack has very few log piles, but does have some fun switchbacks, and rolling hills.

The doubletrack:
I use this primarily to travel between the singletrack sections, and also to add mileage. The blue trail has a couple of fun hills, and reminds me a bit of a wider Bald Mountain.

Recommended Route:
I generally take the doubletrack to the back of the park, and ride the Pines. I turn right on the doubletrack after exiting the Pines, and ride to the middle of the trail system (there is a big map/sign here). The Snakes angles off to the right, and is the narrowest and most uphill of the choices here. I ride the snakes up to the top, and take the rollercoaster down. Usually, I ride all three sections of the rollercoaster, and then continue around to the right. I ride this trail all the way to the main trail off the trailhead, and then take the first right. This heads generally uphill. There is a branch off to the right (immediately before the trail goes downhill). Either take this branch to go to the top again, or go downhill, and you will be back at the Snakes.

Other recommended trails in the same area:
Bloomer: Just exit the back of the park onto Sheldon, and head south. Take a left onto Tienken, and then a right onto Lecita. Take this until you go down a hill and curve to the right. There will be a small parking area on the left, along with a rail-trail. Take this east until you reach a bridge. This is a back enterance to Bloomer.

Holdridge: Much more techincal, and slower.

Bald Mountain North: Fast and wide. Take Predmore to Kline, for a short ride over to Addison Oaks

Summary:
I ride stoney alot seeing how it is in my backyard, and i can just ride in. All trails begin at the trail head in west branch. From there its all up to you on what to ride. There is some fun twisty,some what technical single track, and there is also double track that can be just as enjoyable. There are several differnt sections on the track there.

The Pines: A wooded, mostly flat sinlge track in the back of the park. This is the section that contians the wooden bridge and also the rock pile. Its a beginned to intermedite trail, depending how fast you go.

Powerlines: A hilly, short section on the trail, kinda off to the side and not the most ridden trail, Hard climbs with a nice short downhill at the end

Rollercoaster A,B,C: this is the main single track in the park, after a nice climb to the top of Sheldon, you get a very enjoyable ride down the hill, some log jams and also other small obstacles. There are several smaller trails that branch off, keep to the left at the fork for the longest and most enjoyable ride. Some of the other trails are fun, but the are mostly out trails if you dont wanna ride the entire trail.

Overall: A good trail for beginner and intermedite, not to much technical, but a good solid place to ride in the summer. I go at least 3 times a week or so. I ride a yellow Moab, Anyone sees me there, I would be more than willing to show some of the trails to you.

Following some one who knows the trails, or anywhere
