Multiple loops, ranging from 22 to 5 miles. Most trails are not technical. Some nice hills and great views.

Summary:
recommend island perimeter trail, easy though a bit of sustained climbing, esp. on w side. can do it in <3hr but why rush w/ the gorgeous vistas. take the 1st "ferry" out & then you have 8hr+ to ride the island, though i haven't done the road loops yet.

Recommended Route:
also suggest kayaking around the island, which took me <8hr not counting the rest/beach chillin'. bring camera for cliffs

Other recommended trails in the same area:
valley spur, bruno's run, mt. marquette/benson grade, etc.

Summary:
Grand Island must be seen to be believed. So much natural beauty. So much fresh air! A beach at the north end of the island is pure white sand, no rocks, shells or seaweed. Of course, it is Lake Superior, which is difficult to swim in in mid summer because of it's cold temperature. Every scenic outlook has something to enjoy. I recommend stopping at them all. There are now a few water spigots available for refills.

Recommended Route:
We took to the left and stayed to the left riding the outside of the island. Some pretty good climbs needed us to get in gear and stay there for the duration.

Summary:
A jock might do it in 2-3 hours, but take the time to enjoy the spectacular scenery and vistas. There are a few pics at http://www.gosource.com/bike/grandisland/home.html
The west and north side is NOT a ride for little kids or the out-of-shape, but there are flatter, family friendly trails along the south and east shore. Ferry schedules change after Labor Day. There is no food service on the island, so bring lunch and water. Bike rental available at the dock, but I'd suggest that bring your own.

Recommended Route:
Ride the 22 mile perimeter of the island. Maps available at the ferry dock on the mainland. We were told that the center loop had a lot of sand and would be tedious.

Summary:
I took this trip in early July with my girlfriend. We camped in Munising and were in the UP for about 5 days. There is so much to do in the UP during the summer and Munising is somewhat centrally located for everything. The island is very beautiful and there a many spots to stop off on the shorline to enjoy the scenery. My only real problem with the the island is that the flies and bees are frickin' huge. You will want to be well prepared with bug spray. Also it's a good idea to bring some kind of food with you....something to tide you over till the ride back to the main land. This trail is purely for relaxation. There is note really any single track.

Recommended Route:
When you take the ferry over the to island ask someone who works there for a map and they will show you three different loops. I took the middle on in distance which was about 11 miles i think. The largest loop is around 20 miles, definatly an all day event.

Summary:
This is a nice ride if you allow yourself enough time.
I had to push pretty hard to make the Ferry back to the mainland. 1hr. 52min.
Be prepared for some hills,(about 60% of the ride). Great non-technical trail, lots of gradual hills, don't bring the kids if pushed for time. The ferry runs every 3 hrs.
Great sites!!!!

Recommended Route:
The 22 mile ride was great.

Other recommended trails in the same area:
If heading up from lower MI, stop at Shingle Mill in Vanderbilt.
