Fumee Lake Natural Area
7 reviews
 3.86 of 5

Big and small lake double track loops, with marked cross country ski trails that provide a good climb. Single track is found coming down from both ski trails.

Summary:
some great single track, most of it rather easy but w/ great moguls & dips. not too steep but SUSTAINED climbs, esp. on the mtn ski trail (as distinguished from the mtb trail there). other s-track is south of LITTLE F. Lake. there are more primitive s-track opportunities, for example: from w parking lot near Lk Antoine, take 1st single track to north but don't cross the RR grade; get on RR grade & pedal east for 50+ meters then look for grassy opening on left (north), veer north (leaving RR grade) & a bit northeast & you catch a track that climbs along the power line: this one's not for the glamour boys, gotta be in real shape to enjoy. reward is mtn-top & a field where I saw like 30 deer sunday nite. relax in between on flat double-track trail system. something for everyone here: bike, run, swim, kayak, ski, jump, crawl.. just get your poon at Fumee Lake

Recommended Route:
opposite parking lots off Lk Antoine Dr & 396, latter is bigger & posher, but former has a water spring nearby

Other recommended trails in the same area:
Niagara trail "down by the river"

Summary:
Nice single track for cross country riders and the ski trails in between offer a nice break. Not incredibly technical, but being able to ride the downhill parts of the sigle track fast make up for it. It would be great to see some stuff built out there so a full suspension could be used on the trails. Oh yeah, watch out for people on horseback or just hiking on the trails around the lakes.

Recommended Route:
Start at the parking lot on the west side of Big Fumee Lake.(The entrance is near the Lake Antoine Park and Campground.) Go left and start to head up the hill on the north side of the lake. You will cross an old railroad grade and the single track starts on the right. After the single track, head left to the east side of Little Fumee. Go up the hill on the south side of the lake and just as you are starting to descend the other single track will be on your right. It's all down hill and is well worth the climb. You will come out on the trail you used to get up the hill and from here you can do whatever.

Other recommended trails in the same area:
"The Gorge"...Not too many people know about this I don't think. I bike out there all the time and only see hikers. It's about a mile outside of Norway, Michigan (Highway 8) and you will see a Piers G

Summary:
Some of the best riding aroung. The hill climbs are challenging enough for even the best riders, and will give you a hell of a workout if you push it. Both lower and upper single tracks are a great ride and technical enough to challenge anyone. This place has it all.

Recommended Route:
All of it. Single track or hill climbs, they're all great.

Other recommended trails in the same area:
Bruno's run and just about any trail in Marquette.

Summary:
A fun trail for the area. not very technical but a nice tight hard packed single track that is a good workout..

Recommended Route:
The southern sng track is all uphill but it's all worth once you get to the top. The northern loop is longer and more difficult and I usually ride it backwards cause it's faster.
