Cross Country Rider Summary: Short but fun if you're already on the island. I was on the island with family and took my bike just to get around, but was glad to find some decent riding to keep my occupied...not a big fan of the touristy stuff. I wouldn't go there for the riding, but if you're already there, its worth doing some riding away from everyone on the rental cruisers and the horse carriage traffic. Recommended Route: No clue, I just rode around without knowing where I was going

Cross Country Rider Summary: The trails around Arch Rock (Manitou and the eastern portion of Tranquil Bluff) have technical sections, with short steep climbs, roots, and rocks. Almost everything else is fairly tame.
Bring your own bike though- the rental places stock fully rigid bikes with street tires. Recommended Route: Around the Island:
Manitou to Tranquil Bluff, then take the Swamp Trail/Porter Hank's loop to British Landing. From here, follow the Croghan Water trail to Partridge, then Crack-in-the-Island back to pavement. Then any trail around Fort Hill is good.
Other recommended trails in the same area: There's a good (but short) downhill on the unnamed trail next to the rifle range.

Ridden Trail: Once a year

Cross Country Rider Summary: I agree with the posters who say they wouldn't make a special trip t othe Island for the MTBing. Once a year, at the end of the Port Huron-Mackinac boat race, I find myself with a half-day to kill. Rent a hardtail and get out of town. My ride always includes Tranquil Bluff and Sugar Loaf; there's lots of ways to get around.
It's not about the trail, it's about the cool scenery.
See the map link and sample route link below. Recommended Route: Here's a link to an interactive map of the island:

Here's a link to a sample route I posted on the MMBA bulletin board:
http://www.lmb.org/ford/mack.htm Other recommended trails in the same area: Munising area: Bruno's Run & Grand Island;
Straits area: Wilderness State Park
Cheboygan area: Black Mountain, Bois Blanc (very primitive)

Cross Country Rider Summary: Not a bad trail system. Some technical sections but you have to know where to look. Pick up a trail map from the vistors information booth next to the carrige tour office by Arnold Line. Hit the backside of the island for the best trails, Tranquil Bluff by Arch rock is pretty good and Coffee trail through the center. Recommended Route: Tranquil Bluff for mild technical and Coffee Trail for cruzing. Other recommended trails in the same area: Boyne Mountain, North Country Trail-Mackinaw section, Bruno's Run-Munising, and anywhere in Marquette.

, from Swartz Creek Summary: This system was wiggity wack!!! First off I took my girlfriend and she thought it was weak. She's a newbie. There were a few single track trails through the middle of the island. There are mostly paved and gravel roads. We were very disappointed after reading positive reviews. It costs $42 for a two people and two bikes to go round trip. Save your money for nice dinner in Harbor Springs or Petoskey and hit the North Country trail. For reazy, my friezies. Recommended Route: All routes are sub par. Other recommended trails in the same area: North Country
