Pontiac Lake Trail

Tough, jarring trails. The downhills make you appreciate the importance of front shocks. Rocks everywhere. Super fast downhills, a couple put you over 30mph if you dare. It's very hazardous now that the trail is washout bad in some places.

Summary:
Great Michigan Trail. Offers a long enough ride with enough of nature's obstacles like rock gardens, brisk climbs and burner descents to keep you motivated and smiling. A few well placed log rides would really put this trail over the top!

Summary:
This trail is as fun as you make it. Attak it and it'll give you a nice workout, plently of rocks and mid size climbs to keep your attention. The fun really begins on the fast desends, you can reach speeds in the low 30mph's on the back section if you really dig in.

This is a trail that to reallyg get a great workout you'll want to hit twice during you visit. Another nice thing is during the change of season there aren't a ton of leaves on this trail so maintaining a good clip is not an issue.

Summary:
Wow, what a trail. I found this trail to be extremely fun and challenging. Lots of rocks, with some nice climbs and fast downhills sections with some tricky switchbacks. Not marked well, had a hard time figuring out which way to go at several junctions. I saw quite a number of riders with flat tires the day I rode it. I will definately ride it again.

Recommended Route:
Good question. I need to ride this one with someone who knows the trail well.

Other recommended trails in the same area:
Poto, Novi, Mayberry, Island Lake, Brighton, Highland.

Summary:
This is a nice small trail to ride. It is only about 8.9- 13 miles long. It can easily be done in under 40 minutes. Pontiac lake trail is known for its rocks and fast downhills. The course has changed over the years since the time when I first started riding it many years ago. Many of the "dangerous" spots have been marked off and are no longer accessible. I used to ride the suicidal downhill that is near the middle of the course. I believe that too many people were injured and even one killed riding that section hence the closing of that section. Initially when the course was set up it was one of the hardest trails in michigan. Mainly only advanced riders were hitting it. It had insane downhills, huge 3-4 foot steps and drop offs, and one mean uphill climb that I was never able to climb fully. Now the course has been set up so that a mediocre rider can do the whole course. Its still a work out though and lots of fun. Expect to fall if its your first time out. I've fallen many times on this trail and even had stitches but I guess that happens when you ride it aggressively. Many of my friends have fallen on this trail and also had stitches and other breaks. Either way make sure you are riding this trail with decent equipment. Shimano LX as a minimum. Nothing sucks worse than walking this trail back after breaking your bike in the middle of the trail. My bike has never broken on this trail but three of my friends had to make the walk back. This trail is absolutely fun to ride. Highly recommend it.

Recommended Route:
Take all left turns. If adventurous try to find the sectioned off "dangerous" parts. However don't ride them unless your suicidal.

Other recommended trails in the same area:
potowatomi trail, holly, bald mountain,
