Ridden Trail: Once a week

Cross Country Rider Summary: This is one of my favorite trails. The trails aren't technically demanding, but when ridden at a fast pace can be very exciting. There are about 4 nice climbs, but nothing terribly difficult. Both trails combined are a little over 9 miles and can be completed in around 50 minutes. The first trail feels more open and has some nice climbs and decents. The second trail has a good rollercoaster section, however both trails have sections of seemingly endless switchbacks. The trails are hard packed and have little sand, so feel free to really crank it up and fly! Recommended Route: When you finish the first trail you have the option of turning right and going out to the parking lot or turning left and doing the second trail. Definitely do the entire 9.5 miles. Other recommended trails in the same area: Rum Village, Ft Custer, and Yankee Springs

, from Chicago, IL Summary: Good trails, but current signboard at north end of parking lot doesn't help you find them. The trails north of the lot are mostly widetrack jogging trails over rolling hills.
For a warm-up, you can add about 4 miles to the good stuff by doing a loop here. Head to your left, by the covered picnic area and follow the trail over a short, steep hill. After going around a small patch of crops, you come to an intersection. Left takes you on trail 7, which has a good, grinding climb. It dead ends, so you get to fly down that hill on the way back. When you get back to the intersection, keep to your left (except where it would take you to water) until you end up at a paved trail. Take this to the left and you'll get back to the parking lot. Recommended Route: You drive north into the park. Trailhead for the good stuff is on your right and leads south. The trails are on the south side of Monkey Run Street (the road leading to the park).

, from Kalamazoo Michigan Summary: The obstacles are not as technical as before. There are a few trees to go over and quite a bit of twisty single track to slow you down. The sand is less prevailant here then at Custer or Yankee. The climbing is longer but less steep then at Custer and easier then at Yankee. Riders of all levels are out there so if it is busy it may be difficult to pass the slow. Be prepared. Recommended Route: Both loops start and end near/at the trail head. The first is longer than the second. The total distance is now shorter from the storm damage approx 8-9 miles. Other recommended trails in the same area: Fort Custer and Yankee Springs are of similar fun and difficulty. Al Sabo is less technical and shorter.

, from Columbia City, IN Summary: Good news! The trail has been reopened. The Cass County Parks Dept. has spent countless hours reopening and making new trails as a result of a monster storm last year. I saw the damage and it is hard to describe how many large trees went down. The report that I read said that they need riders to pack down and break-in the new trails. I havn't riden it since before the storm but I can only imagine that it will be outstanding as it was before. There is a great park to start from and it is well maintianed. Recommended Route: Can't say at this point Other recommended trails in the same area: Rum Village, Winona Lake (Boys Club, Fort Custer

, from Elkhart IN Summary: Do not come to this trail until further notice. A powerful storm hit this park in the fall of 2001.The trail is closed. I would be surprised if it opens this summer at all unless it is completely re-routed. Quite a mess. It used to be an outstanding trail. well worth a trip. Its a 4 star trail when its open.Hope it re-opens soon!
