Bloomer in Rochester Hills
5 reviews
4.8 of 5
Singletrack and fire roads with a nice DH/loopy/switchbacky/superfun hill wall section. This is a great place to train for hills since it has some of the steepest I have ridden yet in Michigan, not to mention its close proximity to yuppieville.
From M-59, exit either Dequindre or Rochester Rd, and zig, or zag, your way over to John R. Rd. Follow Johnny all the way north unitil you run into Bloomer Park. If you miss it, you are stupid.
Trail Length
depends on how long you ride for, and whether r not you get lost
Summary: This trail offers a bunch of options. I enjoy the switchbacks myself. This is a great trail.
Recommended Route: The yellow trail seeemed to have my interest. You can hit all the trails for a great day of riding.

Ridden Trail: Once a year

Summary: I grew up a 1/2 mile from this trail and return every year to ride it when I visit the 'rents. It's great riding, even when compared to the massive singletrack network of the Pisgah National Forest where I live in NC. Fast, tight switchback singletrack, "hill repeat" climbing in and out of a river valley, and, if you look for them in a double-secret location, some incredible technical stuff that I'm not going to describe because I'm note sure if it's legal... anyway, this place is fantastic, if you're in or from SE MI, check it out.
Recommended Route: You're going to haveto explore- this area is so tight that you to make up your own routes, but you can link everything so you use a few main "arteries" to swing into singletrack sections for a total of 10-12 miles of great riding.
Other recommended trails in the same area: Pontiac Lake and, hands down the best, Highland Rec.

Ridden Trail: Ridden Once

Summary: Damn you Michganers for having far better MTB trails than Cleveland will ever have. Zooming switchbacks, tight hillside-hugging singletrack, precariously planked log bridges, fast flats, big jumps, little jumps, mud ... just about everything I wish I had in my city. Something for everybody from newbie to shredder. Damned fine place to spend a few hours and cheat death. I'm coming back as soon as I can.
Recommended Route: Bloomer Park parking lot. Park next to velodrome.
Other recommended trails in the same area: "Dances With Dirt" -- Not a bike event, but a killer ultramarathon in Sept in Hell, (yes, Hell) Michigan. Named one of North America's 12 toughest running races by Trail Runner magazine. Not sane.

Ridden Trail: Once a week

Summary: Very tight single track that runs next to the river, Man made obsticles from 3' to 16' A lot of sand and roots, If it rains the trail changes because of downed trees and over flowing river. The main part of the trail inside Bloomers park is tight, technical, off camber hillside traversing the first half is mostly DH and then back up and across. Once you find a route stick to it, its very easy to get lost when new to this trail
Recommended Route: Take Dequinder rd. till it ends make a right , park iin lot on the left. Go back over little bridge and through the fence and follow the river!

Summary: THis place gets 5 flaming whatever the heck they have now....chilis or wheels....? because it's a 5 mile traffic battle ride from my house. Fun place to go for an after work ride.
Recommended Route: go down the singletrack to the river from behind the velodrome, and hang a left along the river till you get to the big hill with trails on it. Ride this loop until you throw up, then go get a latte....
